Sometimes life feels like a slog. You’re tired, things keep going wrong, and there are days when you’d rather stay in bed than face another battle. That’s why Christian friendship matters throughout the week, not just on a Sunday. People who’ll listen, pray with you and remind you of God’s promises when you’re struggling to hold on to them yourself.

In today’s passage, Acts 14:19- 23, Paul was stoned and left for dead. But he wasn’t left alone. Other believers gathered around him, and he got up. Later, he and Barnabas returned to encourage the churches to keep going in their faith, even through hardship.

Pastor Chris’s encouragement was simple: surround yourself with believers who’ll help you keep following Jesus. And be that person for someone else.

Those friendships take time. That’s why Chris is praying about home groups, where people can share a meal, open the Bible and get to know one another properly. If you could host, speak to him. Or begin by inviting someone for coffee and a proper catch-up. And if you need support this week, let someone know. You don’t have to wait until you’re feeling stronger to reach out.

Acts 14:19-20 - 19 But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. 20 But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe.

Now we don’t know what these believers were doing specifically as they gathered around Paul for sure as it doesn’t say in VS20. Though it does tell us that they were THERE for Him and because of that Paul “rose up.” This showing us the importance of SURROUNDING OURSELVES WITH OTHER BELIEVERS WHO CAN HELP LIFT US UP WHEN WE ARE DOWN.

Inevitably, we are going to face trials in this life. And the important thing to take away from the example we see in this text, is that we want to be able to get back up to keep going as we see Paul do here instead of staying down. Now what helped him do that, was being surrounded by other believers. Fellowship being something the early church was devoted to (Acts 2) for this beneficial reason among many others. And as such, an example we should follow as Christians as well so we have people there to help us in the midst of adversity rather than trying to get through it alone.

Join us Sunday as we gather to worship Jesus and continue our verse by verse study through God’s word in the Book of Acts.

Kids ministry will be available for 2 - 12 year olds.

Pastor Chris didn’t pass his driving test this week, but he did get to talk about Jesus with his driving instructor. Sadly, that doesn’t earn you any extra marks. 😉 He was disappointed. But those conversations mattered, even when the day didn’t end the way he hoped.

It’s easy to be so focused on getting somewhere that we miss the person beside us. The colleague we’re too busy to ask about. The neighbour we assume wouldn’t be interested. The person we’ve quietly written off.

Today in Acts 14:1–18, we saw Paul and Barnabas keep sharing Jesus wherever they went. Paul gave his attention to a man others might have overlooked. This should challenge us to ask: who am I walking past?

God hasn’t written us off. May we remember that when we’re tempted to make assumptions about someone else.

As we head into another ordinary week, let’s pray: “Lord, help me notice the people in front of me. Give me time to listen, words that encourage and courage to share you.”

And prayers for Pastor Chris and Sarah’s next driving test at the end of the month are still welcome! 🙏🏻

Acts 14:5-10 - 5 When an attempt was made by both Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to mistreat them and to stone them, 6 they learned of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding country, 7 and there they continued to preach the gospel.
8 Now at Lystra there was a man sitting who could not use his feet. He was crippled from birth and had never walked. 9 He listened to Paul speaking. And Paul, looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be made well, 10 said in a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he sprang up and began walking.

The NATURE OF OUR CONVERSATION and WHO WE ARE TALKING TO can have a real impact on fruitfulness in our lives as believers. Especially, regarding whether people we share the Good News with believe in Jesus or not.

And in Acts 14, we see spiritual principles demonstrated by Paul and Barnabas that lead to people getting saved that we can learn from. Two of which are:
1.) OUR MISSION NEVER CHANGES (VS1-7)
2.) SHARE THE GOSPEL WITH ANYONE AND EVERYONE (VS8-18)

Join us Sunday as we gather to worship Jesus and continue our verse by verse study through God’s word in the Book of Acts.

Immediately following service we will be having our monthly “bring & share” time of food and fellowship. We encourage you to bring something to share but it is not mandatory.

Acts 13:2 - One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.”

As these believers were ministering “TO” the Lord through worship with fasting, He spoke to them and gave them their ministry “FOR” the Lord!

It never being that God doesn’t want to speak to us and give us direction but rather that we make the mistake of not taking the time to give Him our full attention so we can hear what He is saying.

Tomorrow is an opportunity to give Him our attention as we fast and pray throughout the day and come together as a church family at 7:PM to seek Him through prayer and worship.

Then we will break our fast with communion and a church provided meal together.

Join us! ☝️🙌🏻🙏🏻

As we head into a new week, here’s something to hold onto: our acceptance with God rests on what Jesus has done for us. We don’t have to earn it. Today, we went through Acts 13:42-52 and the encouragement to “continue in the grace of God”.

That grace changes us. We want to know Jesus more, find hope in his promises, share him with others and learn to depend on the Holy Spirit. It’s a growing relationship, with room to keep learning.

What might that mean this week?

📖 Make a little space to read Acts 13:42–52. Ask yourself: “Am I trying to earn God’s approval, or comparing my faith with someone else’s?” Bring that honestly to him.

🙏 Pray for one person you’d love to know Jesus. Look for a welcome opportunity to share, remembering that their response is something you can entrust to God.

And if life feels difficult, joy doesn’t mean pretending everything is fine. Our hope rests in Jesus, even while we struggle.

Save this as a reminder to return to during the week.
