On this day in 1685 the composer, George Frideric Handel was born. Did you know that Handel used to play the organ in the Chapel? The organ was originally housed in the Banqueting House on Whitehall where Handel used to rehearse and so we are confident that he would have played the organ himself.
The choir of the Chapels Royal will be performing Handel’s 8th Chandos Anthem in November as part of our celebrations. Plus you can hear the organ in all its glory on Tuesday 19 May, as trailblazing organist, Christian Wilson, is joined by trumpeter Tom Poulson for a programme spanning 400 years of repertoire (including Handel’s Suite in D)
The Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula is celebrating its 500th year. From January through to November, you can expect a historic programme of events, with choral concerts, flower festivals, readings and lectures.
