This year we’re bringing Christmas at the Tower to you! 🎄📡

In a normal December our Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula would be filled with music and congregations attending Christmas carol services. But in the spirit of 2020 (you know the drill by now) this year we’re going virtual instead…

Join us online from wherever you are in the world for a special service of Nine Lessons and Carols filmed at the Tower and Hampton Court Palace, next Monday 21 December at 6pm GMT 🌍

Although the service will be free to view, we ask everyone who can do so to make a donation to support the costs of organising and broadcasting the service, and to help us in our work keeping the spirit of the palaces alive for everyone.

The event will be broadcast right here on Facebook, as well as on our website, where you can also find out how to make a donation 👉 bit.ly/hrp-palacecarols

We are delighted to invite you to join us at 18.00 on December 21 for the premiere of 'Christmas Carols from the Palaces', a special online broadcast of a traditional Christmas programme of Nine Lessons and Carols recorded in the Chapels Royal at the Tower of London, and also from the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court Palace.

The service is co-ordinated by Historic Royal Palaces, the charity that cares for the Tower and Hampton Court. It is free to watch, and donations are encouraged. The proceeds will be shared equally among the Chapel at the Tower, the Chapel at Hampton Court, and Historic Royal Palaces.

You will be able to watch the service here: https://www.hrp.org.uk/christmas-carols-from-the-palaces and no pre-registration or log in is required. If you can't join us on the 21st at 18.00 (or would like to watch the service again), the video will be available using the same link until midnight on 4 January.
Whilst we cannot all gather to celebrate Christmas in quite the same way this year, I hope this online service will go some way to bringing both the joy of Christmas and the wonders of the Tower into your hearts.

In this unprecedented time The Reverend Canon Roger Hall shares this prayer. Please look after each other, please look out for your neighbour and please use the prayer – maybe even try and learn it and use it every time you wash your hands.

It is with great regret that all public worship and activity in the chapel is suspended. This includes our performance of St John Passion on Sunday 29 March and the reading of the Gospel according to St Mark by David Suchet. We will be in touch with those who have reserved seats soon and it is our firm intention to re-schedule these events at a later date.

On this day in 1685 the composer, George Frideric Handel was born. Did you know that Handel used to play the organ in the Chapel? The organ was originally housed in the Banqueting House on Whitehall where Handel used to rehearse and so we are confident that he would have played the organ himself.

The choir of the Chapels Royal will be performing Handel’s 8th Chandos Anthem in November as part of our celebrations. Plus you can hear the organ in all its glory on Tuesday 19 May, as trailblazing organist, Christian Wilson, is joined by trumpeter Tom Poulson for a programme spanning 400 years of repertoire (including Handel’s Suite in D)
