“The problem of settler intimidation is a very real one. When I visited the village as part of the Holy Land Coordination in January, the community reported ongoing attacks and intimidation, a growing number of checkpoints and endless financial pressures. Families were leaving because they simply could not see how they could raise their children in safety and security.”

Pax Christi, Coventry Justice and Peace Group and Coventry PSC held a Silent Vigil outside Coventry Cathedral prior to the Commemoration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, on 6th August.

This was to highlight the continuing investments in nuclear weapons made by Coventry City Council via the West Midlands Pension Fund.

“The City of Peace and Reconciliation’ should not be investing in nuclear weapons – or any weapons, but Coventry City invests our Pension Fund money in the five largest, global weapons manufacturers, including those that produce nuclear weapons!”

Hiroshima Day Remembrance at Coventry Cathedral.

We commemorated the 81st Anniversary of the dropping of the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

There was an exchange of messages between Hiroshima and Nagasaki read by Cllr Ayumu Kikuchi, from the Embassy of Japan in London and The Lord Mayor of Coventry, Cllr Roger Bailey.

The excellent Reflection was given by Sophie Bolt, General Secretary of CND.

Paper Cranes were made and placed on the table in the Chapel of Unity.

We remember - to ensure that nuclear weapons are never used again.
