Last Thursday the Church kept Corpus Christi — a day of thanksgiving for Holy Communion, recalling the Last Supper and the gift of bread broken and shared.

Sometimes Holy Communion is celebrated in church, around the altar, with candles and the gathered congregation.

And sometimes it looks like this: a small wooden cross, simple vessels, a quiet table — Holy Communion taken into the community, where it is celebrated every week.

Different table, same welcome.

Yesterday we were delighted to welcome The Very Rev'd Dr Mark Oakley, Dean of Southwark, who preached at our Sung Eucharist.

It was a real joy to share in worship with him, and to gather afterwards over coffee, fizz and canapés — with thanks to everyone who brought a plate to share.

Our thanks to Mark for being with us, and to all who made the morning so welcoming.

A lovely way to spend a Sunday on the Hill.

So much of St Matthias is shaped by kindness — by people who give their time, care and energy, often quietly and week after week.

Cold mornings, warm evenings, ordinary days.

You help make St Matthias a place of welcome, worship and community.

For all that you do, seen and unseen — thank you.

This Sunday at St Matthias.

The Very Rev'd Dr Mark Oakley, Dean of Southwark, is admired for the way he brings faith, poetry and language together. In his award-winning book The Splash of Words, he explores how a single poem can ripple outward like a stone dropped in water, quietly changing how we see ourselves, the world and faith.

That attentiveness to language is part of what has made him such a valued preacher, teacher and writer.

You do not need to have everything worked out to be moved by a fine preacher — only to come with an open heart and a willingness to listen.

He will preach at our Sung Eucharist.

The service will be followed by coffee, fizz and canapés.

All welcome.

After a short break, Little Chicks is back tomorrow.

Half term was roasting.
This week has brought hailstones.

A few of the toys have been waiting patiently in the tent. Some sitting up. Some having a little rest.

The sheep have claimed the train.
The two little chicks have boarded the rabbit pull-along and are staying put.
The baby doll in the pushchair has the best seat in the house.
One small dog appears to be in charge, and nobody seems to mind.

Now they're ready for tomorrow. And so are we.

Little Chicks Stay and Play is for babies, toddlers and their grown-ups.

Friday, 9.15–10.45am at St Matthias.
Free, friendly, and all welcome — whatever the weather decides to do.

One step, then another.

Yesterday was Trinity Sunday, and now the green season opens before us.

It feels like a season for walking gently into ordinary days, with patience, with kindness, and with the people we meet along the way.

Not a time to have everything worked out, but to keep going, step after step, following the path ahead.

A peaceful spot in Richmond Park.

Some words stay with us long after we have heard them.

He will preach at the Sung Eucharist on Sunday 7 June at 9.30am.

Whether you are a regular member of the congregation, a visitor, or simply curious, you would be very welcome to join us.

Wings lift. Water scatters. The young ones close behind.

A quiet moment for the day after Pentecost.

Perhaps a small reminder that we often learn the way by following.

Wishing you a restful Bank Holiday, from all of us at St Matthias.

We spotted this family of geese at Pen Ponds, Richmond Park.

Pentecost is tomorrow.

Often called the birthday of the Church, Pentecost is a feast of fire, wind, courage, and new beginnings.

Tomorrow, we remember the moment frightened followers found courage and hope.

St Matthias has been keeping this feast on Richmond Hill since 1858 — and we’d love you to join us this Sunday.

Sung Eucharist at 9.30am with choir & organ. Coffee afterwards.

Come as you are.
