For many people the High Holy Days start with the Selichot service on Saturday night. The treasured melodies and soulful prayers of repentance and supplication help prepare us for the Yamim Nora'im (the Days of Awe).
The Selichot services are recited from Motzei Shabbat (the end of Shabbat) at least four days before Rosh Hashanah. The Shofar on Rosh Hashanah will call out: ‘Wake up, you sleepers, from your sleep! Arise, you slumberers, from your slumber!’ Selichot, anticipating this moment, are traditionally recited in the middle of the night or just before morning prayers.
There will be separate Selichot services for Liberal, Masorti and Reform. For times of each service please contact the Mosaic office
