Please pray for Fr Christopher Brolly SJ as he begins his priestly ministry.

Christopher was ordained last Saturday at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Newcastle Upon Tyne by Rt Rev. Stephen Wright , Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle. He was surrounded by family, friends, fellow Jesuits, and many who had travelled from near and far. A beautiful celebration, full of joy, prayer, and thanksgiving.

We give thanks for his vocation, his years of formation, and the many people who have accompanied him on this journey. As he begins this new chapter, may Christ hold him close, strengthen him in service, and fill him with the joy of the Gospel.

What does it mean to lead a Jesuit school in today's world?

Earlier this month, the Heads of all eight Jesuit schools in Britain travelled to Rome for a conference focused on leadership, discernment and the mission of Jesuit education. During their visit, they met with Fr Arturo Sosa SJ, Superior General of the Society of Jesus, reflected on the spiritual roots of Jesuit education through visits to sites associated with Ignatius of Loyola, and explored how Jesuit schools can continue to form young people as people of competence, conscience, compassion and commitment.

In this final reflection before his ordination, we asked Christopher what he imagines St Ignatius might say to him if they were sitting together today.

He speaks of Ignatius watching him with two gazes: one loving, benevolent, a proud father's gaze; the other a challenge, asking him to step up, to rise to what lies ahead.

He reflects on the advice he has received: to rest, to be fully present, and to receive the graces God desires to give.

"May God who has begun this work in you give you the grace to bring it to fulfilment."

A reminder that vocation is never our own achievement. It is God’s work in us, inviting, shaping, challenging, and sustaining us.

Deacon Christopher Brolly SJ will be ordained to the priesthood tomorrow at St Mary's RC Cathedral, Newcastle. The Ordination Mass begins at 1pm.

If you cannot attend in person, you can join us online. The ceremony will be livestreamed on YouTube.

Please keep Christopher in your prayers as he prepares for this moment.
