Heythrop Library is marking 100 years since its philosophy and theology collections were reunited at Heythrop Hall in Oxfordshire in 1926.

The story of the Library stretches back more than four centuries, to 1614 when English Jesuits established a house of studies in Leuven. Since then, its collections have moved repeatedly across Europe and Britain, reflecting the changing circumstances of the Society of Jesus and Catholic education.

Today, the Library continues to serve a diverse community of readers, with particularly strong collections in Ignatian spirituality and Jesuitica, alongside theology, philosophy and related subjects.

As Heythrop marks its centenary, the focus is not only on its remarkable history but on ensuring that this unique collection remains relevant and accessible for generations to come.

A new Jesuit prayer resource for children and young people has launched at the start of the new school year.

Pray As You Grow offers short, immersive audio prayer sessions that invite children to enter imaginatively into scenes from Scripture and reflect on their own responses. Developed by the The Jesuit Institute - UK and Pray As You Go, the resource is designed for use both at home and in the classroom, with sessions tailored to three different age groups.

The first series, Creation and Covenant, is now available, alongside other prayer resources for children and young people.

Jesuit schools across Britain are celebrating a strong set of examination results this summer, with students achieving notable successes at St Aloysius’ College, St Ignatius College, Stonyhurst and Wimbledon College.

Among the highlights, Stonyhurst saw 45% of GCSE grades awarded at grades 9–7, while students at St Ignatius College achieved 122 grade 9s. St Aloysius’ College recorded its highest-ever rate of A grades at Advanced Higher, at 57.1%.

At A level, Wimbledon College achieved a pass rate of more than 99%, with 27% of grades at A*/A, while more than 86% of St Ignatius College students secured a place at their first-choice university.

Job opportunity: Pastoral Ministry Co-ordinator in Belfast

The Irish Jesuits are seeking a Pastoral Ministry Co-ordinator for a two-year fixed-term role based at the Belfast Jesuit Centre.

Supporting the Director of the Belfast Jesuit Centre and the Chaplain to Ulster University, the successful candidate will help create opportunities for people to feel supported in their spiritual lives and empowered to serve others. The role will involve developing pastoral programmes, nurturing volunteers, and creating spaces of welcome, reflection and renewal, as well as offering pastoral, spiritual and community support to students of all faith backgrounds and none.

The role is 35 hours per week, with some flexibility required, including occasional evening work. Salary: £29,000 gross per annum.

Closing date: 12 noon, Thursday 10 September 2026.

🌏 Caring for our common home through an Ignatian lens.

The Integral Ecology Summer School has brought together 12 participants from different countries, including Jesuits in formation and lay people, to explore how Integral Ecology can shape their lives, missions and practice.

🚜 Over two weeks, participants have moved between reflection and action, exploring the theology and spirituality of Integral Ecology at Campion Hall, Oxford before heading to a farm in Herefordshire to work with the land and connect with nature.

For Jesuits in formation, the Summer School is an opportunity to ask what their vocation and future missions might look like in a world facing profound ecological challenges.

🙏 At the heart of this is an Ignatian approach: to listen, to discern, to find God in all things, and to respond through action.

During a the blessing of the new apiary by the Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía, Peter Rožič SJ, Director of the Integral Ecology Research Network offered a beautiful image:

🐝 “Today we are not blessing the honey… What we are blessing today in fact is a process.”

🍯 Honey takes time. So does ecological conversion. The journey towards a more regenerative relationship with creation requires patience, perseverance and a willingness to listen to the land, to nature, to one another and to the movement of the Spirit.

This year’s Season of Creation invites us to see water differently. With the theme , we are reminded of water as a gift that sustains life – and of our responsibility to protect it and to stand alongside communities facing drought, water scarcity and the effects of climate change.

Jesuit Missions UK has prepared new resources for parishes and schools to help us pray, reflect and take action together.

Parishes can use the new and resources to reflect on water challenges in the UK and their connections with communities in the Global South.

In Jesuit schools, pupils can investigate water challenges in their paired Jesuit Missions project countries and consider how they can take local action.

Later in the year, students from St Ignatius College Enfield Stonyhurst Wimbledon College and St Aloysius' College will take this further through regional mini-UN COP conferences.

Sixty Jesuits from Britain, Ireland, France, the Netherlands and Flanders gathered at the Old Abbey of Drongen in Belgium for a retreat focused on their shared mission in Western Europe.

Part of the wider Common Mission process, the gathering brought together younger Jesuits and their Provincial and Regional Superiors for prayer, spiritual conversation and discernment around a central question: “What calls do we hear in Western Europe that would help us deepen our common service of Christ’s mission?”

The retreat marks a significant step in building on existing relationships and strengthening collaboration between Jesuit provinces and regions.

Jesuits and collaborators working with refugees and migrants around the world gathered in Oxford this summer for the fifth Pedro Arrupe Summer School in Forced Migration.

Held at Campion Hall, Oxford from 2–15 July, the Summer School brought together 12 participants – ten Jesuits, one religious sister and one lay colleague from Jesuit Refugee Service – for two weeks of study, reflection and formation.

Participants came from ministries in Kenya, Peru, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Nepal, Bangladesh and other international contexts, bringing a wealth of experience in pastoral work, advocacy, livelihoods programmes and research. Several had themselves experienced migration or forced displacement.

Organised by Campion Hall in partnership with Jesuit Refugee Service - JRS and Boston College, the programme explores the causes of forced migration and international refugee protection alongside Catholic Social Teaching, theology and Ignatian spirituality. It also gives participants the opportunity to share experiences from their own ministries and build relationships across the global Jesuit network.

The Summer School is made possible through financial support from Jesuits in Britain, helping participants from across the Society of Jesus to access this specialist formation.

One participant described the experience as “a time of deep consolation”, while another spoke of returning to their ministry with “renewed hope, inspiring dreams, fresh insights”.
