The mission of the Carmelite is to enter, by the total gift of herself, into the saving mission of Christ, who gave himself for us that we might come to a fuller life in God, and who said: Love one another as I have loved you.

Lent. repentance, renewal, fasting from negative words and thoughts, and feasting on gratitude and kindness. Lord we pause to remember that your light can never be extinguished. Help us to believe in this truth so that we might live lives that display your eternal illumination.

Happy New Year. May 2024 be kind to you and all your loved ones.
Loving Lord, we ask forgiveness for everything in ourselves and in our world that, during this year, has opposed your plan of love; for the sins of violence and warfare, of injustice and oppression, of selfishness and faithlessness. We ask pardon especially for those of us who are consecrated to you and have not always lived according to you gospel.
Fill us with an authentic spirit of repentance. Free us from our resentments, our grievances and our regrets. May we offer freely to others the forgiveness won for us by Christ Jesus, your Son.

We wish you all a very blessed and happy Christmas, full of the joy and hope of Christ’s coming among us, as one of us, a powerfully loving God become a helpless and vulnerable child.

We pray that in through the Christmas festival and in the coming year our world will find its way to peace, especially in that land where Peace on Earth was first proclaimed at our Saviour’s birth.
The novices did a great job with the crib today. All the decorations are now up. We now are ready and await Midnight Mass.

The four already lighted candles have represented for us faith, peace, love and hope. We light the last candle to remember the birth of Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. As the prophets promised long ago, you have come to us once again; and with the shepherds we are filled wonder and amazement.

“I am the handmaid of the Lord,” said Mary, “let what you have said be done to me”. (Sunday Gospel)
Those simple but profound words of Mary have been an inspiration to Christians down the centuries. Whether it concerns the small happenings of our days or a life-changing event, we are encouraged to be as attentive, receptive and responsive to the unfolding of God’s plan for us as Mary was to the strange message of Gabriel. “Let it be done”.
It is a busy day in the monastery, with the Crib being erected, rooms being decorated and the chapel being made ready for Midnight Mass. Although the secular world has been celebrating Christmas for many weeks already, here in Carmel we have been immersed in the beautiful Advent liturgy with it’s beseeching, “Come, Lord Jesus.Come soon”. But with the formal announcement of Our Lord’s birth at the Martyrology this morning, Christmas preparations are immediately under way.

Gaudete Sunday
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Let your forbearance be known to all, for the Lord is near at hand; have no anxiety about anything, but in all things, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God.
