Safeguarding Sunday 2025.

Sunday 18th May is Safeguarding Sunday and Archbishop John has issued a pastoral letter. In his letter, Archbishop John said “Safeguarding is not the work of a few; it is a shared responsibility.

Each of us — clergy, volunteers, parents, parishioners — is called to remain vigilant, informed, and committed to the well-being of every member of our community”.

You can find out more about Safeguarding Sunday, including accessing the full pastoral letter, at rcaos.org.uk/safeguardingsunday25 or clicking on link below.

Talks will be given at Mass on Saturday 17th May and Sunday 18th May 2025.

Rejoicing at the election of Pope Leo XIV, Archbishop John Wilson said "Pope Leo is called to be a sign of unity and a herald of hope — guiding us to the truth of the Gospel, and to the peace that only Christ can give".

Archbishop John called on us "now more than ever" to "fix our gaze on the Lord Jesus". He said it is by placing the Lord Jesus "at the centre of our lives that we find the strength to meet life’s challenges, and the peace our hearts long for. Pope Leo stands among us as a servant of that hope, reminding us that our salvation lies in Christ alone".

Please join Archbishop John in praying for Pope Leo XIV.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him.

Rest in Peace, Pope Francis.

A Solemn Prayer for the Repose of Pope Francis

Eternal Father,
In Your infinite mercy,
You called home Your faithful servant,
Pope Francis,
during the radiant joy of the Easter Octave—
a sign of the Risen Christ’s triumph over death.

We give You thanks
for his life of humble service,
his unwavering commitment to the poor,
his courage in seeking peace and justice,
and his gentle witness to the mercy of Your Son.

Receive him now into the fullness of Your glory.
May he rest in the peace promised by Christ,
whom he served as the Vicar on earth.

May his soul,
and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God,
rest in peace. Amen.

O Mary, Mother of the Church,
pray for him.
Saint Peter, Prince of the Apostles,
receive him.
All you holy Popes and confessors,
intercede for him.

Amen
