We can't wait to take part in tomorrow's neighbourhood festival in Soho Square in partnership with Open House Festival, Harmony in Diversity and Westminster City Council! We are contributing a little piece of Scotland - one of our congregation members, a member of the City of London Pipe Band, will pipe the Lady Mayor to Soho Square, and then we'll enjoy all the fabulous acts from our fellow participants! We're excited to be taking in part in London's again this year! In 2025 we welcomed over 1,000 visitors, and it was such a delight to share our 300-year heritage with so many new people! Do drop in and speak to one of our friendly volunteers, take a self-guided audio tour of the church - and learn more about our upcoming renewal project, "A Kirk for Tomorrow".

This Saturday at 6pm, we're holding a showcase event for our upcoming renewal project "A Kirk for Tomorrow"! Our minister, Rev Tara Porr Granados, and Mary-Jannet and Chris, two members of the church's Futures committee, will give a short presentation on our exciting plans for our community and church building, followed by light refreshments and the opportunity to view the plans and take home a fundraising brochure.

Do feel free to share the invitation with anyone who you think might be interested in supporting our project; and, of course, you're also very welcome to attend if you weren't able to make our Fundraising Launch in July! We would love to see you there.

What's your favourite translation of the Bible? Last Sunday, our minister Rev Tara preached on Romans 12:9-18, comparing and contrasting the two translations she uses most often: the NRSV Updated edition (the work of hundreds of biblical scholars!) and The Message, a translation by Eugene Paterson, which seeks to recreate the directness and vitality of the New Testament, replicating the spirit and idioms of the original Greek by using a more modern vernacular.

Absolutely fascinating to hear such a familiar passage in an entirely new way!

Could you help to show our beautiful church to visitors? Once again we're participating in London's again this year, and we are looking for volunteers! No special knowledge required; just enthusiasm and a friendly welcome.

We're delighted to see this article in The Herald about Còisir Lunnainn - London Gaelic Choir - the oldest Gaelic Choir in the world, formed in 1891! It has been rehearsing in our church hall for over a century, and, for the last few years, has joined with our church choir for a service for World Gaelic Week - a wonderful cultural relationship!

Next Tuesday 25th August, at 7.30pm at Crown Court Church, members of Còisir Lunnainn who are taking part in the National Mòd in Glasgow this October will perform solos and duets. Gaelic and singing teacher Mìcheal Hill will share advice and recommendations, and ecerybody is welcome to join the audience.This is also an excellent opportunity for our soloists to perform in front of a live audience, so the more the merrier!

Tickets are just £5, and payment will be collected on the night, either as cash or by bank transfer. See you there!

We’re supporting the National Conversation — a major UK-wide listening exercise asking people about their experiences of community life, run for the Independent Commission on Community and Cohesion.

The National Conversation is asking people of all ages and backgrounds what community life actually feels like — what’s working, what they value, and what kind of communities they want to be part of. The insights will feed directly into the Commission’s final report — informing both its vision for how we live well together and the practical recommendations the Commissioners are developing to help make that a reality.

After morning worship on Sunday, we gathered in the church hall for the fundraising campaign launch for A Kirk for Tomorrow! Mary-Jannet Leith and Ross Duguid, members of the Futures Committee, gave a short presentation about the project, explaining the principles and motivation behind it, the details of the project itself, and the fundraising targets we have set to meet the project shortfall. We enjoyed the opportunity to ask questions about the changes, and to share fellowship over a picnic!

Do pick up a fundraising brochure when you’re in church, or download your own copy from our website, where you can also pledge a donation to the project there as well. Anything you can give will be hugely appreciated by the Kirk Session and our congregation!
