As a community, Alyth values its relationships with its members and its neighbours of all faiths which is why our Annual Iftar is a cornerstone of our event calendar. Alyth’s thirteenth Annual Iftar was held on Sunday 8 March and the building was filled with over 200 Jews, Muslims and Christians, coming together to study, pray and share a meal. Everyone was welcomed by Rabbi Hannah Kingston and Rabbi Elliott Karstadt, before splitting into three study sessions, to explore the theme of Finding Light In The Darkness, which everyone of all faiths is looking towards. There were three sessions, taught by a combination of Muslim, Jewish and Christian teachers, generating some very interesting discussions. Following the lively and interactive sessions, Imam Mehmed Stublla led the call to prayer before those fasting broke their fast (alongside those who just enjoy food) on a feast of falafel, breads, humous and fruit.

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme a Purim at Alyth! It started with a family party in the morning, with Megillah reading, enjoyed by over 200 guests, followed by a Purim Alyth Whisky Society on Sunday night. Over 150 people enjoyed an Abba-themed spiel, written by Hannah Kieve, our Head of Music, followed by Ma'ariv and a Megillah reading.

The Israeli government is advancing a bill that could ban and criminalise non-Orthodox prayer at the Western Wall, and we need your voice now to stop it.

On 25 February 2026, MK Avi Maoz’s bill granting sole control of the entire Western Wall, including the egalitarian section, to the ultra-Orthodox Chief Rabbinate passed its preliminary reading in the Knesset. The bill would allow criminal penalties of up to seven years in prison for Jews who pray at the Kotel in ways that do not conform to ultra-Orthodox standards.

This legislation risks excluding the overwhelming majority of the world’s Jewish population from one of our holiest sites, affecting life-cycle moments, conversions, and the basic dignity of prayer.

We urge everyone who cares about Jewish unity and religious pluralism to take action now. Join this global campaign, add your name, and contact the Israeli embassy.

Make clear that the Kotel must remain a place where every Jew can pray according to their conscience and tradition.

President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews Phil Rosenberg told Deputies on Sunday that Knesset legislation disenfranchising Progressives and Masorti Jews at the Kotel “should be halted and it should be reversed”. (see the video)

There’s no need to stare at blank walls, just visit the upstairs Alyth Galleria Osef outside the Cecil Rosen Hall to admire (and even purchase) works by Alyth members which are now on display. We were blown away by the number and quality of submissions we received and although there are not enough walls to display them all, we hope you will come and enjoy the exhibition. Rabbi Hannah has written another column for The Jewish Chronicle about the Parasha on the Shabbat before Purim, the narrative of Amalek, recalling a time when another nation sought our destruction. You can read the full article here:

“Remember that which Amalek did to you, on your journey, after you left Egypt. How, undeterred by fear of God, he surprised you on the march, when you were famished and weary, and cut down all the stragglers in your rear” Deuteronomy 25:17-18
