Rscj: To be the Heart of God on earth

Rscj: To be the Heart of God on earth To discover & make known God's infinite, all-embracing love, overflowing from the Open Heart of Jesus (Patricia Garcia de Quevado RSCJ, June 2000)

Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ) are called to discover and reveal God's love for all, whose source is in the Open Heart of Jesus. We aim to be contemplative in spirit, generous and educative in mission and passionate for justice, peace and the integrity of creation. We are contemplatives in action, rooted in prayer and reflection, as, by looking deeply at the world around us, we try to see it as God sees it, so that we can love and serve others. The Society of the Sacred Heart is an international order of women in the Catholic Church, founded in 1800 by a French woman, Madeleine Sophie Barat. Her desire was to heal the pain and division in her country in the aftermath of the French revolution, by helping others to discover the love of God's Heart. She chose to do this primarily through education and spirituality. "The pierced Heart of Jesus opens our being to the depths of God and the anguish of humankind" (Consts, para 8)

"To be the Heart of God on earth means to go to the heart of life with the attitudes and feelings of the Heart of Christ; that was the fundamental intuition of Madeleine Sophie".

Last month 34 RSCJ and colleagues from schools in Australia and New Zealand came together for a few days of silent retreat, based on the writing of Janet Erskine Stuart (Superior General 1911-14)

This was a contemplative retreat focussed on the life and some of the writings of Janet Stuart RSCJ, an English convert to Catholicism in the late 19th century, who was later elected Superior General of the Society. Janet’s educational practice, spiritual insights and leadership qualities have cre...

This summer, RSCJ in temporary vows in Europe and a few young women from Poland and Hungary were pilgrims on the camino to Santiago de Compostela. A brief account here in French, though it should translate into other languages

Have you ever walked along the camino, or another pilgrimage route?
