All Hallows was on the BBC news this week, highlighting how the city churches are helping people feel cool in the heatwave.

It's all about these acts of hospitality and kindness that we do in response to Christ's call to service. We offer love, echoing God's love into the world.

"And whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.’" (Matthew 10.42)

In this news item from 27 May 2026, Revd Nicol Kinrade is interviewed by BBC London about how All Hallows is helping people to stay cool in the hot weather

Update regarding the Monday Bank Holiday

On this day, the Church remembers St Dunstan - successively Abbot of Glastonbury Abbey, Bishop of Worcester, Bishop of London and Archbishop of Canterbury. He was the most popular saint in England for nearly two centuries, having gained fame for the many stories of his greatness, not least among which were those concerning his famed cunning in defeating the Devil, nipping his nose with a pair of tongs. This story is depicted on the plate from the church of St Dunstan's, now on display in the crypt museum.

We pray for all who live or work in the old parish of St Dunstan in the East (now part of All Hallows by the Tower), and for our link schools, St Dunstan's College and St Dunstan's Education Group. May God bless and keep them.

On Friday we celebrate the Feast of St Matthias (transferred from the 14th May by Ascension Day).

Matthias was chosen to fill the gap created by the betrayal and death of Judas Iscariot. He was chosen by lot from amongst the disciples. The importance of having 12 apostles, and the need for the number to be restored, was so that they might "sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel". It was conditional that they had to have been with Jesus during his earthly ministry and witnesses to the resurrection. The point of being chosen by lot, rather than by some democratic method, indicated the election or choosing by God, rather than by mortals.

On this day we remember the lives lost on SS Royston Grange.

A Houlder Line cargo liner steamship, built in 1959, the Royston Grange collided on this day in 1972 with the tanker Tien Chee in the Rio de la Plata, Argentina. A terrible tragedy, in dense fog the two vessels collided, and the tanker caught fire, spreading to the Royston Grange. The fire killed all 61 crew, 12 passengers, the Argentine pilot and 8 members of Tien Chee's crew. 32 Tien Chee crew were rescued.

The memorial window in All Hallows commemorates this maritime disaster, and is a reminder of the risks facing seafarers.
