Remembering 9/11

All Hallows by the Tower is open until 5pm this evening, and the side chapel has been set aside for anyone who wishes to light a candle in memory of those who died in the terrible events of 9-11, 25 years ago today. We remember too those traumatised, injured, and those who suffer or died from 9/11 related long-conditions.

May God bring peace to this wounded world.

World Su***de Prevention Day service

All Hallows by the Tower is hosting a special service in support of World Su***de Prevention Day this evening, Thursday 10 September, at 6pm.

It will be an opportunity to bring the community together in gratitude of all those who strive to prevent su***de and support those affected, to reaffirm our commitment and action to prevent su***de, and to shift the culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, empathy and support.

On Sunday we had the honour of leading the Merchant Navy Conmenorative Service at Trinity Square Gardens. We remembered the service and sacrifice of the merchant Navy and fishing fleets in serving their country.

Merchant Navy seafarers’ bravery kept supply lines open during global conflicts including the world wars, as well as other crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Today, merchant seafarers are indispensable, handling 95% of the UK’s traded goods, yet continue to face challenges such as the ongoing situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

We are grateful to Trinity House, who lent us the Red Ensign for this week.

We had a marvellous 'Fire & Faith' day on Saturday as we remembered the events of the Great fire of London, which took place 360 years ago. Families and visitors from all around the east of London came to explore the science of fire, and how this momentous event shaped the City and the faith of the people who lived here.

With thanks to 'The Fire of London walking tours' who provided quill writing lessons and the opportunity to dress up as Samuel Pepys.
And to St Olave Hart Street - their wonderful fire demonstrations and a visit by Pepys himself. Verily...

Date for your diary - a wonderful opportunity to hear from eco-artist Debra Shipley, as she discusses her work for 'Bowls in a Fragile World', currently on discuss in All Hallows by the Tower.

There will also be a special performance from The Collective Choir.

Come along today and explore the events of the Great Fire of London, which took place 360 years ago.

There will be an opportunity to see live fire science demonstrations in Seething Lane, and then visit both Olave's and All Hallows by the Tower. At All Hallows you could visit the Porch Room where we will activities to bring to life the world of 17th century London.
