Joy that endures 🙏✨

You are invited to join us this Bible Month to dive into one of the most joyful and encouraging letters in the New Testament: Philippians. This week, as we embark on our journey through Philippians, we're discussing belonging, joy, and hope in the difficult moments ⬇️

Take a moment to reflect: how do you experience deep and lasting joy in your faith?

Pray with us today.

Loving Christ, source of all truth and restorer of tunefulness, I have accepted a place in your choir, but spoiled its harmony by my pride. I have known your love song, but remained impervious to its transforming beauty. I have learned the music of your graceful story, but hindered the performance by my selfishness.

Forgive me.

Make me tender-hearted, that the power of your music might change me; make me modest, that I might humbly sing the part you give me; make me generous, that others might hear your choral symphonies. Loving Christ, source of all truth and restorer of tunefulness, sing through me, I pray. Amen.

Jonathan Hustler, Secretary of the British Methodist Conference

Pray with us today.

Hope does not disappoint: Spes non confundit (Romans 5:5) Let us pray for all Pilgrims of Hope

What do we sing? Alleluia! When do we sing it?

Beaten Fastened to the stocks Yet, singing hymns to God at midnight (Acts 16:22)

Thank God we arrived here But the door is firmly shut And we are at the end of our tether

Jesus Christ, you proclaimed The jubilee year of the Lord Liberty to the oppressed (Luke 4:18-20)

You said you are the door (John 10:9-16) We rejoice and sing for joy as A door shall be opened to the excluded (Luke 6:22)

You blessed the poor of the earth Bring it on, Lord: an earthquake Shaking the foundations And ushering in your kingdom

When do we want it? Now(!) and forever. Amen.

Reynaldo Ferreira Leão Neto (Léo), General Secretary, World Methodist Council

Pray with us today.

Creative and radiant God, your strong and sure light is never overcome by darkness. May it be so in this our time.

Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, in your mercy and grace you surprisingly said to us, “You are the light of the world.” May it be so in this our time.

Spirit of light and love, kindle in us fresh urgency to love and serve the human family, to be amazed by creation and to care for it well, to pursue justice and offer mercy, to rejoice in receiving and sharing grace.

In confidence and hope, we pray. Amen.

Hope Morgan Ward, UMC Council of Bishops

Pray with us today.

God, who changes not, we trust in you for our todays and tomorrows. We pray for those with responsibility for making key decisions that might change the direction of world or local events. We pray for those affected by the decisions of others, but who feel powerless in the face of forces of change. We commend to you the decisions that have to be made in your Church, and those charged with making them. Take our gifts and talents, voices and musical worship, Lord, and use them we pray in the service of your kingdom. Amen.

John Morton, supernumary presbyter, Kendal Circuit

The light shines in the darkness…

Across Cuba, power cuts of up to 20 hours a day - and even days without electricity - are making daily life incredibly difficult. Food can’t be stored, transport is scarce, and many families are cooking over firewood. And yet, hope is shining through.

Church attendance is in fact increasing at this time as people turn to God, and the Methodist Church in Cuba is responding with both faith and action. A solidarity grant of £15,000 from our World Mission Fund is enabling the distribution of solar panels to vulnerable families and local churches, spaces are being created where people can charge phones, cook meals, and refrigerate food - offering practical support and a place of refuge.

In the midst of crisis, the Church continues to be a living light in its communities. Read more about Cuba at methodist.org.uk/for-churches/global-relationships/all-global-relationships-news/the-lights-shine-in-the-darkness/

Pray with us today.

You, Lord, as the author of the story of all of creation, down to each individual walking on Earth, sing so gently over us, pouring your adoration, peace and assurance into our hearts and minds. Lord, may the stories and songs of our circumstances, locations, relationship with you and with others find crescendo and ultimately, resolution. Lord, put songs in our hearts that are meant for being shared and alternate melodies to draw us into greater communion, fellowship and relationship with others. In the ultimate storyteller’s name we ask and sing, Amen.
