Just three years ago, Didcot Methodist Church in Oxfordshire could only count on an average attendance of around 12 worshippers, leading to fears that the 1903-contstructed house of worship would no longer be viable.

But today up to 60 people flock through the doors on a Sunday morning, with more than ten nationalities represented in the thriving church family.

Jesus, light of liberation and source of our deliverance, whose mother’s heart was pierced as you were proclaimed a sign destined to be rejected, come near to us as we pray for the world.

We look to you in our trials and tribulations, trusting that you who have conquered death might bring us life and hope.

Where there is injustice help us to pray for a new dawn. Where the forces of the world seem intent on destruction, help us to stand firm in the conviction that God is good, all the time.

Grant us your Spirit, that even in our suffering we may rejoice that we share in your way of truth and life. Amen.

Loving God, we give you thanks that we can always turn to you in prayer and know that you love us and listen to us. Whether praying with the words of others, with words of our own, or simply being with you in silence, we know that you hear us.

Help us to come to you with our joys and thanksgiving. But help us too to bring our sorrows and concerns and the needs of our neighbours, for nothing is too large or too small to share with you. So may we make prayer a part of our lives. Amen.

Faithful God, thank you for the light that never fails even in seasons of darkness.
You know all that we carry, especially the moments when hope feels thin,
yet you continually meet us with gentleness and love.
Where relationships are strained, bring healing.
Where hearts are weary, breathe strength.
Where joy has faded, spark it back to life.
Help us notice the quiet gifts in each day – the people who stand with us, the love that shapes us, the grace that restores us.
May gratitude rise within us, and may we journey forwards held by your enduring love. Amen.

This , we share in this prayer from Revd Stephen Normanton, a Methodist minister and founder of the mental health support charity PeerTalk.

Thank you God for your assurance that your love for me is stronger than all the stress and anguish caused by:
not having enough time to get everything done;
not having the health and fitness to do the things I would like to do;
not having enough money to provide the family with all I want for them;
not being able to change situations that are out of my control.

For all the times when I feel weary, lonely and worthless
I thank you that your Spirit just gently lets me know your love for me is stronger... so much stronger.
Amen.

Lord God Almighty,
You are the one who sees me in both my sorrow and my joy.
You know the quiet ache and the unspoken hurt
that tries to dim the light within me.
Where sorrow has weighed me down, lift me.
Where disappointment has dulled my vision, restore me.
Let your light break forth in my life like morning after a long night.
Lord, shine on every place where I feel tired, uncertain or discouraged.
Let your joy return to me – steady, gentle and renewing.
Because your glory has come,
I choose to rise.
I choose to shine – not by my own power,
but by your Spirit working in me.
Thank you for turning my mourning into dancing,
my tears into testimony,
and my sorrow into a radiant joy.

As the Baby Loss Alliance begins its annual campaign, on 9 October, to raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss; the importance of bereavement support and of the vital work that is needed to improve pregnancy outcomes, we join together in this prayer 🙏

Creator God,
Who loved us before the world began and knit us together in the womb.
We know each and every life you create is precious to you.
We remember all who have been loved, and, especially this baby loss awareness week, those whose memories we cherish.
Be with all who grieve, wherever they are in their journey.
Help us to share our stories, and remember the babies forever carried in our hearts
