If you’ve been wondering what’s happening behind the hoardings of Temple Church, these beautiful new information boards on the West Porch should tell you all you need to know. There’s even a QR code you can scan to give to our fundraising campaign as we seek to close the remaining 10% gap on this significant project.
The church remains open for worshippers, history lovers, architecture enthusiasts and music lovers during the works.

It’s another busy day at Temple Church. The team from Lavastar Signage is installing public information panels about the Restoration & Renewal project – the church’s major conservation and renovation programme. It’s also an opportunity for us to visibly thank our donors, who’ve together enabled us to raise more than £6m of our £6.7m target £6.7m.

Work to conserve Temple Church’s great Romanesque West Doorway is progressing well – all thanks to the brilliant work of our crack team of carvers, masons, conservators and heritage architects. We’ve already completed two of the outer orders of the door and are on track to have fully restored this wonderful ‘portal to Jerusalem’ – on time and on budget – by the end of the year.

Temple Church Trust will be offering private tours for very small groups from late September to see the works up close and meet the expert teams involved in restoring this significant structure, which dates from the 1160s. It’s a unique opportunity to experience first-hand one of the country’s most important medieval restoration projects in real time. Watch this space for more details and how to book!

After 27 years as Master of the Temple, we bid a fond farewell to Rev. Robin Griffith-Jones at the end of July. His successor is Rev. Andrew Bowyer, formerly Dean of Divinity at Magdalen College, Oxford, who arrives in post on 1 September. Andrew will be celebrating his first Evensong at Temple Church on 30 September. Do please join us in welcoming him.

Did you know that Temple Church is undergoing its biggest transformation since the 1950s? As part of a £6.7m project, we’re not only restoring the great West Doorway to its 12th-century splendour but also renovating the vestry, ensuring disabled access throughout the site, quadrupling the number of public loos, creating much-improved rehearsal space for our singers and visiting artists and building a new Song School for our gifted girl and boy choristers. Temple Church was privileged to hold the memorial service of Anthony Lloyd, Lord Lloyd of Berwick, at the church in 2025. We were deeply grateful to learn recently that this hugely respected legal figure has left the church an exceptional bequest in his will. Thanks to such generosity, we are closing in on our target to fund the biggest conservation and renovation programme of this medieval jewel: the £6.7m Restoration & Renewal project.

Faces of Temple Church: Sir Richard Martin

Not every memorial in Temple Church tells its story lying down.

This is Sir Richard Martin (1534–1617), shown kneeling in prayer (a style that became popular in the late Elizabethan period) rather than resting in eternal sleep.

Martin was a renowned goldsmith, served as Master of the Royal Mint, and was four times Master of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. His memorial reflects both his public life and his Christian faith, capturing him in a moment of devotion that has endured for more than 400 years.

It’s a momentous service tonight as we mark Rev. Robin Griffith-Jones’ last Evensong as Master of the Temple.

To wish him a memorable retirement farewell, director of music Thomas Allery has selected some very special liturgical music. It includes Sir John Tavener’s Introit ‘Mother of God’ from the composer’s epic all-night musical vigil The Veil of the Temple, commissioned for the Temple Choir and premiered in London in 2003 and New York in 2004.

Herbert Howells’ glorious Collegium Regale setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, Harold Darke’s organ Rhapsody in E, the Responses by Bernard Rose and the ‘Hallelujah’ chorus from Handel’s Messiah. Music by Edward Bairstow and Johann Strauss Senior complete the line-up.

Please join us for a reception in Temple Church Courtyard after Evensong as we say a fond farewell to Rev. Robin Griffith-Jones with drinks and a jazz trio. All are welcome!

It was a joyous day yesterday as we welcomed three new confirmands into our Temple Church community and baptised a child into the Christian faith. Here, the Rt Revd Dr Emma Ineson, Bishop of Kensington and Acting Bishop of London, cuts the spectacular cake prepared by Inner Temple’s catering team to celebrate the occasion – as The Revd Robin Griffith-Jones looks on.

A warm evening for cassocks!

Our lower voices and Director of Music, Thomas Allery, ahead of last night's sold out concert.

Our choral scholars, choristers, period orchestra, and team of professional singers gave a performance of Royal pieces by William Boyce (1711 - 1779) and George Frederick Handel (1685 - 1759) to a packed and sold out church.

There's still chance to hear our choir on Sunday 19th (Choral Communion at 11:15), Tuesday 21st (Madrigals in church court at 6:15 and Wednesday 22nd (final choral evensong at 6:00) before the summer break.
