Sunday: 16/08/26

Theme: Hope.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (NIV)

This verse is Paul’s prayer and blessing for believers. It teaches us that-

God is the source of hope – True hope comes from Him, not from changing circumstances.

Joy and peace come through trusting God, as faith in Him grows, He fills believers with inner joy and peace.

The Holy Spirit empowers hope. This hope is not based on human strength but on the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives, enabling us to “overflow” with hope.

These here, is a powerful reminder that when we place our trust in God, He provides the peace, joy, and hope needed to face life’s challenges.

Keep trusting in Him.

Religion

Religion Can Be Dangerous

Religion can be dangerous when it becomes a tool for control, manipulation, hatred, division, and violence.

Faith should never be used to justify oppression or to silence people from asking questions.

Jesus taught us to love God and love our neighbours. True faith should produce love, humility, compassion, justice, forgiveness, and service.

The problem is not always religion—the danger comes when human beings use the name of God to justify their own desires.

Let us seek God, pursue truth, and never allow religion to replace love, wisdom, and humanity.

Understanding Christian Persecution

The persecution of Christians is not a new phenomenon. It has been a reality since the birth of the Church. Jesus Himself warned His followers:

“If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.” (John 15:20)

What Is Christian Persecution?

Christian persecution is the hostility, discrimination, oppression, or violence directed against believers because of their faith in Jesus Christ. It can take many forms, including:

* Mockery and ridicule
* Social exclusion
* Loss of employment or opportunities
* Imprisonment
* Physical violence
* Death for refusing to deny Christ

Biblical Examples of Persecution

The Bible records many examples of faithful believers who suffered for the sake of Christ:

* The apostles were beaten and imprisoned for preaching the Gospel (Acts 5:40–42).
* Stephen became the first Christian martyr (Acts 7:54–60).
* Paul endured imprisonments, beatings, hardships, and persecution for Christ (2 Corinthians 11:23–28).

Why Does Persecution Happen?

Many Christians ask why persecution exists. Scripture gives us clear reasons:

1. The Gospel challenges the values and systems of the world.
2. Satan opposes the advancement of God’s Kingdom.
3. Faithful believers stand for truth, righteousness, and the Lordship of Christ.

God’s Promise During Persecution

O Christian, be encouraged. God does not abandon His people in times of suffering. His promises remain true today.

Jesus said:

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:10)

And the Lord assures us:

“Fear not, for I am with you.” (Isaiah 41:10)

No matter the trial, God remains present with His people, strengthening and sustaining them through every challenge.

Our Response as Christians

Persecution may test our faith, but it also strengthens believers, advances the Gospel, and brings eternal rewards. As followers of Christ, we are called to respond not with hatred, bitterness, or revenge, but with love, prayer, forgiveness, and steadfast faith.

Let us stand firm in the assurance that Christ is with us always and that His Church will prevail.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We pray for Christians facing persecution in particularly in Nigeria and around the world in general. Strengthen them with Your grace, your power and your mercy, hfill them with courage to stand firm in their faith, and grant them wisdom to respond with love. Let Your peace guard their hearts and Your promises sustain them through every trial. May Your Church remain faithful until the end, and may many come to know Christ through the witness of those who suffer for His name.

Sermon Abstract : Joy in the Midst of Trials

James 1:2–3 (KJV)

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”

James is not telling believers to enjoy suffering itself, but to rejoice because God can use every trial for a greater purpose. Difficulties test our faith, reveal our dependence on God, and develop spiritual maturity.
Lessons from the passage:
1. Trials are inevitable – Every believer will face challenges, disappointments, and seasons of testing.
2. Trials test faith – Difficult moments reveal whether our trust is in God or in our circumstances.
3. Testing produces patience – As we endure and remain faithful, God builds perseverance, endurance, and character within us.
4. Patience leads to maturity – Through trials, God shapes us into stronger and more effective servants.
Application
* Do not give up when facing hardship.
* Trust that God is working behind the scenes.
* Pray for strength and wisdom during difficult seasons.
* Remember that every test can become a testimony.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help us to trust You in every trial. Strengthen our faith, develop patience in us, and enable us to remain steadfast through every challenge. Turn our tests into testimonies and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Topic: The Consequences of Disrespecting God’s Servants

Key Text:

2 Chronicles 36:16
“But they mocked God’s messengers, despised His words and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy.”

God appoints leaders in both the spiritual and civil spheres for His purposes. Throughout Scripture, He repeatedly warns against rejecting, mocking, or dishonoring those He sends with His message. While every leader is accountable to God and should be tested by His Word, there are serious consequences when people or governments deliberately despise God’s messengers.

God Defends His Servants

Numbers 12:1-10

Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses, God’s chosen servant. The Lord intervened and rebuked them.

Lesson:

* God hears how His servants are treated.
* Criticism motivated by pride, jealousy, or rebellion displeases God.
* Respect for God’s servants reflects respect for God’s authority.

Rejecting God’s Message Leads to Judgment

2 Chronicles 36:15-16

The people continually mocked God’s messengers and ignored His warnings.

Consequences:

* Spiritual blindness.
* National decline.
* Loss of God’s protection and favor.
* Judgment after repeated warnings.

Lesson:

When leaders refuse godly counsel, they risk leading people into avoidable crises.

Pride Prevents Leaders from Hearing God

1 Kings 22:13-38

King Ahab rejected the prophet Micaiah because he disliked the message.

Consequences:

* Wrong decisions.
* Defeat and destruction.
* Fulfillment of God’s warning.

Lesson:

Wise leaders seek truth, not merely approval.

Leadership Must Remain Humble Before God

Proverbs 8:15
“By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice.”

Principles for Leaders:

* Seek God’s wisdom.
* Listen to righteous counsel.
* Govern with justice and humility.
* Honor those who faithfully speak God’s truth.

Application to Today’s Leaders and Governments

The Presidency, government officials, community leaders, and all those in authority should recognize that power is a trust given by God. Leaders who ignore, ridicule, or persecute faithful servants of God may gain temporary influence, but they remain accountable to the Lord of all authority.

Warning:

Disrespect toward God’s servants can result in:

* Loss of wisdom.
* Poor judgment.
* Moral decline.
* Public unrest.
* Divine accountability.

Conclusion

God calls leaders to humility, wisdom, and reverence. Those who honor God’s truth position themselves for His guidance and blessing. Those who continually reject His voice risk the consequences demonstrated throughout Scripture.

Prayer

Father, grant wisdom to our leaders. Give them humble hearts that listen to godly counsel and respect those You have called to proclaim Your truth. May they govern with justice, integrity, and the fear of the Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Theme: God’s Timing Is Never Late

In Isaiah 60:22, Thus says the Lord God Almighty(He is still saying)

“A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in his time.” (KJV)

This here is a powerful reminder that God specialises in taking what seems small, insignificant, and overlooked and turning it into something extraordinary. What begins as a “little one” can become a thousand. What appears weak today can become mighty tomorrow.

The key phrase is: “I the LORD will hasten it in his time.” God’s promises are not governed by our schedules. We may feel delayed, forgotten, or discouraged, but heaven operates according to God’s perfect timetable. When His appointed time arrives, what seemed slow can suddenly happen with remarkable speed.

Many people give up because they judge their future by their present circumstances. But God sees potential where others see limitations. The seed may be hidden beneath the soil, but that does not mean it is not growing.

Do not despise small beginnings.
Your current season does not define your final destination.
What God has spoken over your life will come to pass—not by human effort alone, but by His divine timing.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to trust Your timing even when I do not understand the process. Strengthen my faith while I wait and keep me from becoming discouraged by small beginnings. Thank You that You are able to multiply, increase, and establish all that You have purposed for my life. Lord, hasten Your promises in Your perfect time, and let Your name be glorified through my testimony. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏾

Remember: If God made the promise, He also controls the timing. Trust the process, remain faithful, and watch Him make it happen.

And I say wait and remain steadfast, it shall happen in His time. God Almighty bless you and grant you Grace.

Are You Really Alone?

How often do we feel alone when life becomes difficult? How many sleepless nights have been spent worrying about problems that seem too heavy to bear? Yet the real question is this: Can a person truly be alone when God is with them?

The Lord Jesus Christ declared:

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Think about that for a moment. Human beings may walk away. Friends may disappoint. Family members may not always understand. Positions, possessions, and even physical strength can fail. But the One who created heaven and earth has made a promise He cannot break: He will never abandon His own.

In Hebrews 13:5, God reminds us not to place our confidence in material things, because while wealth can disappear and circumstances can change, His presence remains constant.

In Deuteronomy 31:8, we are told that the Lord goes before us. Imagine that—the God who knows tomorrow is already there before you arrive. Why then should fear dominate our thoughts?

In Joshua 1:5, God assured Joshua that just as He was with Moses, He would be with him. The same God who sustained His servants in the past has not changed today.

And in Deuteronomy 31:6, we are encouraged to be strong and courageous, not because we are powerful, but because God is faithful.

Perhaps the greatest challenge for many believers is not whether God is present, but whether they truly believe He is present when they cannot see Him working. We often ask, “Lord, where are You?” while God is asking, “Why do you doubt My promise?”

The storm does not mean God has left you. The delay does not mean God has forgotten you. The struggle does not mean God has abandoned you. Sometimes His presence is most evident not in the removal of the trial, but in the strength He gives us to endure it.

So before you say, “I am alone,” ask yourself this: If God has promised never to leave me nor forsake me, am I walking by my feelings or by His Word?

My good friend, your answer to that question can change everything.

Some have made Jesus a game that they play, to others a song that they sing. But since I met with Jesus, I'm happy to say, that to me He's become everything.

He's everything that I need
The Beginning the End He's life's dearest friend

When I wake up each morning He's right by my side
At night He's my last though in mind He's joy for each moment He's hope that faith brings

He's my future He's my past the first and the last

To me He's become everything.

Folks. Jesus Christ is waiting, call on him. You too will experience He is everything.

"A man's enemies are members of his household" Matthew 10:36 (and Micah 7:6),

These Biblical verses warns that close friends or family can cause the most pain, betrayal, or opposition, often due to differing beliefs or personal jealousy. These will include and not limited to your siblings, (brothers,sisters), cousins, friends, neighbours.

Jesus Christ, used it to describe potential familial conflict arising from faith, though it is often interpreted broadly to mean that the closest relationships can create the most severe challenges.
