Being and Appearing

Being and Appearing Being and Appearing is a year-long curated programme of contemporary visual art at the Swiss Church in London.

It aims to support artists to develop new work in response to the architecture or socio-historical context of the Church, and in doing so, further the dialogue between art and faith established by the Church’s cultural programming over the past six years.

Thanks to Curating the Contemporary for including our event Rebecca Birch performance: The Yellowing, Part 2 (Bell Mouth) in their monthly round up of shows! Rebecca's audio-visual performance is taking place on Thursday 29 November and Saturday 1 December and brings the architecture and history of the Swiss Church into dialogue with the current life of a bell mouth intersection on the A583 in Lancashire

Call out to performers or those interested in spoken word. Artist in residence at the The Swiss Church, London, Miriam Laura Leonardi is looking for performers to help her with a reenactment of an episode of Robert Ashley's television opera 'Perfect Lives' (http://www.robertashley.org/produc…/1977-83-perfectlives.htm) provisionally set for Saturday 25 August at the The Swiss Church, London. The performance will be accompanied by the Church’s organ. Duration 30 minutes.

The first meeting will be on Monday 13 August at 6pm at the Swiss Church, 79 Endell St, London WC2H 9DY. The number and timing of rehearsals will be discussed in consultation with the participants.
