Is it Relevant At All? 🤷 -

Why do we read the Torah each week? It was written so long ago - is it relevant nowadays?   It's a good question and deserves some thought.  An eight-year-old child picked up a book on quantum mechanics that was lying on the living room shelf. He opened a random page and started reading. After rea...

The Hidden Illness 😔 -

"Simon is the life and soul of the party and has a permanent smile on his face." "Sara is the leader of the crowd, gets the best marks in the class and always looks immaculate and put together." Both Simon and Sara suffer from a hidden illness but no one, other than their close family members and th...

What Went Well 😁 -

As the year draws to a close, I just wanted to share a few pictures with you of our youth activities and events over the last few months.  Due to Covid, many of our events were online, but we were so grateful when the laws relaxed a little and we were able to celebrate and learn together once again...

Last month we wrote to tell you about the Shul’s response to the Government’s Step 4 out of lockdown. At that time daily infection rates were growing rapidly. Since then, although still high, the number of cases have fallen and have now plateaued. As such we shall be making the following changes to regular services:

Whilst moving around the Shul and getting to your seat the wearing of face masks continues to be mandatory. However, from Thursday 19 August once in your seat the wearing of a face mask becomes recommended. Should you wish to sit without a mask please inform a warden who will direct you to a specially-designated area.

Please note that the rules on mask-wearing over High Holy Days will differ.

The Shul continues to welcome bookings for children who are old enough to sit with their parents for the duration of a service. We are also working on High Holy Days provision for children’s services which will return this year and will be emailing to inform you about that in due course.

Weather-permitting a limited Kiddush will continue to be served in the Shul forecourt.

High Holy Days:
To recognise the larger amount of people who will be in the building over the High Holy Day face mask wearing will be mandatory at all times.

Precautions we have taken to-date has seen every other row of seating closed. For the High Holy Days we will be opening all rows though we will be ensuring social distancing by leaving one seat between each person sideways and by offsetting people in the row in front so people will sit in a ‘W’ formation.

During the High Holy Days we will be offering services in a marquee on the Shul forecourt as well as in the Shul and you can book for your chosen space.

To keep everyone as safe as possible we strongly encourage all attendees to take a lateral flow test on Erev Rosh Hashanah and Erev Yom Kippur. These are free and readily available from the Government website at https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests. Those people without online access can order their tests by calling 119 (lines are open 7.00am to 11.00pm). If the test shows you have Covid-19 you must not attend the service.

For those uncomfortable with attending in person we will again be offering online Zoom Yizkor and Kol Nidrei services before Yom Kippur commences and will also be broadcasting the shofar blowing at the end of Yom Kippur.

Our Rosh Hashanah service times are shown below. Yom Kippur service times will be sent out after Rosh Hashanah to allow us to evaluate proceedings.

Thank you for your attention and we wish you Shana Tovah.
