What a way to begin .

Our first day together challenged us to think more deeply about what it means to say that Christ is our peace in a world marked by conflict, division, and injustice.

In his keynote address, Dr Jude Lal Fernando drew on his experiences of growing up during conflict in Sri Lanka and later living in Ireland. His message was both challenging and hopeful: peace is possible in places of struggle because the suffering Christ is already present there.

💬 "We don't condone injustice, but we are responsible for how we respond." - Dr Jude

Day 1 also included:
🔹 Opening prayers and worship
🔹 Workshops and group discussions
🔹 Evening marshmallows and chats
🔹 A fantastic steel pan performance to round off the day,

Thank you to everyone who has joined us so far. Stay tuned for Day 2!

In a historic first, the Anglican Diocese of Botswana has ordained 14 women to the priesthood, the first such ordinations within the Anglican Church of the Province of Central Africa.

After years of discernment, advocacy, training, and faithful waiting, this joyful moment marks a significant milestone in the life of the Church across Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi.

As Archbishop Albert Chama reflected:

“Today, history has been made.”

We give thanks for the ministry and witness of these newly ordained priests, and pray for them as they begin their next chapter of service.

📖 ReStorying Nicaea: In the Empire but not of the Empire? — a new theological resource

1700 years after the Council of Nicaea, this new collection brings together theologians, priests, poets, and church leaders from across the global Church to reflect on the continuing significance of the Nicene Creed in today’s world.

Commissioned by The Revd Canon Dr Peniel Rajkumar, Global Theologian and Director of Global Mission here at USPG, the resource emerged from a gathering in Türkiye last year which explored questions of faith, empire, justice, ecology, and Christian identity.

Contributors offer a fresh re-reading of the Creed— asking how Christians might faithfully proclaim “one Lord, Jesus Christ” in a world shaped by nationalism, inequality, environmental destruction, and the legacies of colonialism.

As Peniel reflected:

“A moment of re-receiving our common faith in our uncommon times, so that this faith can be embodied and enacted in ways which, following Jesus, say a resounding no to empires both past and present and a resilient yes to all that affirms life.”

Last week, our General Secretary The Revd Canon Dr Duncan Dormor and Dr Paulo Ueti (Theological Advisor / Regional Manager for the Americas & the Caribbean) attended a meeting of the Heads of Anglican Agencies, hosted by Alongside Hope (Canada) in Halifax (11–14 May).

The gathering brought together friends and colleagues from across the Communion, including Alongside Hope, the Anglican Alliance, Anglican Board of Mission (Australia), Anglican Missions (New Zealand), E-CARE Foundation (Philippines), Episcopal Relief & Development (USA), and the Mothers’ Union (UK).

Reflecting on the meeting, Duncan shared:

“This has been a great opportunity to gather and reflect on the ways in which sisters and brothers across the Anglican Communion come together to respond to humanitarian crises and seek to work alongside communities facing the challenges of food insecurity, conflict and climate change… We have been very privileged to spend time learning from leaders of the Mi’kmawey people… their deep commitment to the environment and the ways in which they continue with dignity and resilience to advocate for their rights.”

We were also encouraged by a message shared with the meeting from the Archbishop of Canterbury, who reminded agencies across the Communion:

“Your work is not peripheral to the life of the Church—it is central. Through your leadership, prayer becomes action; through your partnerships, the Communion becomes visible; and through your service, the love of Christ is made known in the world.”

A powerful reminder of the calling we share.

Last week, our Regional Manager for Britain, Ireland & Europe, Carol, attended the annual Triangle of Hope steering committee meeting.

The Triangle of Hope is an Anglican-led effort to form a covenantal community between the dioceses of Liverpool (England), Kumasi (Ghana), and Virginia (USA). Together, they are committed to transforming the long history, ongoing effects, and continuing presence of slavery in our world through repentance, reconciliation, and mission.

Each of these dioceses was directly involved in the transatlantic slave trade. The Triangle of Hope exists to remember and acknowledge with sorrow that human beings were captured and enslaved for financial gain, with no regard for their dignity or humanity.

This is a history viewed with deep pain, and in penitence before God — the God who wills in Christ to bring freedom and justice to all.

The steering committee meets once a year to reflect, plan, and strengthen this shared work of healing and transformation.

Please keep the Triangle of Hope and its partner dioceses in your prayers.
