NEXT CONCERT: 15 May | 7.30pm

Join us to welcome to perform a thrilling journey through the piano’s vast expressive landscape. The programme opens with Bach’s monumental Chaconne in Busoni’s powerful transcription, before moving to Beethoven’s radiant “Waldstein” Sonata—one of the pinnacles of the Classical sonata repertoire. From there, the music travels across continents and styles: the fiery rhythms of Ginastera’s Danzas Argentinas, the sensual lyricism of Granados, and the sweeping passion of Rachmaninov’s celebrated Preludes. The evening culminates in Ravel’s dazzling La Valse, a glittering, intoxicating vision of the waltz on the edge of collapse. In Rupert Egerton-Smith’s hands, this richly varied programme promises virtuosity, colour, and drama in abundance.

“A pianist and musician of the highest calibre” (New York Concert Review)

We have been well and truly spoilt with exceptional music over the last two months, but things only keep getting better: on Friday, 24 April, our resident ensemble will team up with another London-based world-class ensemble: , led by Concertmaster of the Royal Opera House, .

Together, they will be performing a programme entitled Of Song and Dance - featuring Rossini’s almost operatic Sonata a Quattro No. 3 and Dvorak’s radiant and folk infused String Quintet in G major Op. 77, a work brimming with lyrical warmth and spirited dance rhythms.

The programme will be completed by a newly commissioned work for two violins and viola by Georgian-Ukrainian violinist and composer, Igor Loboda. His music is widely performed by world-renowned artists such as Gidon Kremer and Elisabeth Batiashvili and it is a huge honour to host the world premiere of this work especially written for this concert.

As 2025 draws to a close, we look back with gratitude at so many wonderful events that make our St Cuthbert’s community so special, but one particular one will stay in our memory for a long time to come: this month’s performance of Handel’s Messiah by our own exceptional choir, four outstanding young soloists, joined by our organist Sam Ali and Organ Scholar .rndll and, of course, our outgoing Director of Music .

A sold-out concert that showcased the incredible standard of music making that we are privileged to enjoy not only as part of our worship, but now year-round in our Music at St Cuthbert’s series.

None of our big community events would be what they are without the generous support of our friends and all our volunteers! Thank you!

Our lovely music team are busy getting ready for our concert coming up on the 12th of December! We would love to see you...
