For almost 40 years, Shree Kutch Satsang Swaminarayan Mandir Woolwich has served the community through seva - volunteers serving throughout the week, families bringing children to the nursery, elderly devotees coming for darshan, and generations growing up through the Mandir.
Greenwich Council has now decided to proceed with parking restrictions directly outside the Mandir, despite over 800 petition signatures, a consultation receiving 168 clear objections and a further 74 concerns, written representations and attendance at Woolwich Town Hall meetings.
But this is about more than parking.
It is about access for elderly and mobility-impaired devotees, families and young children, the ability of volunteers to carry out seva, and ensuring practical barriers do not make it harder for the next generation to remain connected to their Mandir, their community and Hinduism.
Our community has engaged, spoken up, attended meetings, gathered support and proposed alternatives. Yet many of these concerns remain unresolved.
