The Confirmation of Election of the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury is happening today (28 January, 2026).
The legal process, set within a worship service, is being held at St Paul’s Cathedral. It will see the Archbishop-Elect, the Rt Revd and Rt Hon Sarah Mullally DBE, enter St Paul’s Cathedral as Bishop of London and leave as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, Primate of All England and Metropolitan, vested with the legal and spiritual authority of the office.
She legally assumes the role during this service. This is the penultimate stage in the election process, the last of which will be the Installation on March 25th, which will see Archbishop Sarah begin her public duties as the Archbishop of Canterbury.
