On Oak Apple Day, we commemorate the rescue of King Charles II in 1651, achieved by Richard Penderel, who hid the King in the boughs of the Royal Oak in Boscobel Woods. What many may not realize is that Penderel himself is buried and memorialized in the churchyard of St Giles-in-the-Fields in central London.
This Sunday, immediately after our 11 AM Holy Communion, we will remember Penderel by placing a wreath of oak leaves on his tomb. Come join us to mark this special day - and don’t forget to wear a sprig of oak yourself!
