Gospel
John 3:16-18

In this passage, Jesus speaks to Nicodemus about the depth of God’s love for the world. Rather than condemning creation, God responds to its brokenness by offering the most precious gift: the only Son. The purpose of this gift is not judgment, but rescue—so that everyone who places their trust in the Son may share in eternal life, rather than facing destruction. The central message is one of profound mercy: God’s motivation is love, and the offer of salvation is universal. However, the passage also clarifies that rejection of the Son carries its own consequence. Those who refuse to believe have already chosen to remain under judgment, not because God condemns them arbitrarily, but because they have rejected the only source of rescue. The light has come into the world, yet some prefer darkness. Ultimately, the passage emphasizes that God’s will is always for life: belief in the Son leads to salvation, while unbelief simply means refusing the gift that God has already given.

Feeling real love

Musicians sing about wanting to feel real love.
Adele (and Bob Dylan sang) “to make you *feel* my love”.
Robbie Williams sang, “I just want to *feel real love*”.
The band, The Foreigners, sang, “I want to know what love is… I want to *feel* what love is.”
Elton John asks, “Can you *feel* the love tonight?”

You and I and every human person carry a deep desire to feel God’s love.
The bad news is we cannot feel real love without God.
Many people try to feel real love through: human relationships, shopping, sports, alcohol, drugs, gambling, food, internet websites.
However, these and other good things leave you and me feeling empty.
In short, we are powerless to feel the love that we desire within us.

The Good News is: God does love you. You can feel real love, God’s love, through the Holy Spirit.
That is what Pentecost is about.
Not just ideas about God — but feeling God’s love through the Holy Spirit.
I’m not saying that faith is pure feelings all the time.
There are times when God’s love feels dry. And You have to wait – like the apostles.
However, like any human relationship, “feeling love” is important and possible.

In the upper room 2000 years ago, the apostles “felt” God’s love:
- They heard it: “there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind”
- They saw it: “divided tongues as of fire appeared”
- They breathed it: “it filled the entire house”
- They felt it physically: “rested on each one of them.”
- They felt it interiorly: “they were all filled with the Holy Spirit”
- It flowed out: “began to speak in other tongues”

St. Paul felt God’s love personally: “the Son of God loved me and gave himself up for me.” (Gal. 2:20) Not just Father or Sister. You.

Rom 5:5 says, “the love of God is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit.” Not our heads only.

Eph. 5:18 says we can feel God’s love repeatedly: “Go on being filled with the Holy Spirit.” Not just once.

At the end of Mass, we are going to have Prayer Ministry. Trained lay ministers will be at the front of church. Feel free to come forward. They can pray for you to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to “feel God’s love” – just like the apostles 2000 years ago.

Friends, the world is yearning to “feel real love”, to feel God’s love.
The church (you, me and us) is God’s primary way of helping people feel His love.
How can you let God’s love over flow in your words and actions this week: with your family, work colleagues, friends, class mates, even your enemies?
Help people “feel real love”, God’s love.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, I see you standing in front of me, looking at me with love.
Breathe your Holy Spirit into me.
Come, Holy Spirit. Fill me with God’s love. Help me feel God’s personal love for me.
Let others feel real love through me this week, by my thoughts, words, and actions.
In Jesus’ name, amen!

Remember to breathe

When mothers are about to have a baby, often midwives tell them
“remember your breathing.” Apparently, remembering breathing helps somewhat to have a baby.

Why is this? When people are scared, they often: hold their breath, tense their muscles, or breathe very rapidly.

Remembering to breathe: increases oxygen to the mother and baby, helps muscles work more effectively, reduces unnecessary tension, and can make contractions more manageable.

Remembering to breathe helps us give birth physically. Remembering to breathe helps gives birth to Jesus spiritually.

Jesus ascended into heaven last Thursday. Even though he went away, he promised he would always be with them. He told his disciples to go into Jerusalem and pray to be clothed with power from on high, i.e. with the Holy Spirit. They went into an upper room, and for nine days prayed the most ancient prayer and novena of the church: “Come, Holy Spirit.”

The bible describes the Holy Spirit as the “breath” of God. The disciples were in the upper room for nine days “remembering to breathe”; to breathe in the Holy Spirit. Only when the Holy Spirit came, God gave birth to Jesus *within them*. When the Holy Spirit came, and Jesus was born within them, they had a new love, courage, and unity.

Love – Hebrews 8:10 says “I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts.” God’s Law is not an external commandment to fear. God’s Law is now written on your heart. God’s law is love. Romans 5:5 says “The love of God is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit.” If you are doubting God’s love, or struggling to love someone, remember your breathing: pray
daily “Come, Holy Spirit.”

Courage - When the Holy Spirit comes at Pentecost, the disciples are not afraid to speak about Jesus anymore. They can’t wait to tell people. They have courage. When someone you love gives birth you can’t wait to tell everyone! Similarly, when Jesus is born into our hearts, we can’t wait to tell everyone! If you feel afraid to witness and share your love of Jesus, remember your breathing: pray daily “Come, Holy Spirit.”

Unity - In the Tower of Babel story, God divides people by many languages, because they try to become like God without God. Pentecost reverses Babel. People of many languages are united in the spirit of Jesus. There is a lot of division in the world at the moment. We need unity. True unity comes when we speak to one another in the spirit of Jesus. Whenever there is division, remember your breathing: pray daily “Come, Holy Spirit.”

Through Jesus, the church is the power to unite the world in love. Remember your breathing: Pray, ‘come, Holy Spirit’, every day this week. Jesus will be born within you to bring new love, new courage, new unity, and transform the world!

Prayer
Lord, please, help me to remember my breathing this week. To Pray, ‘come, Holy Spirit’.
Be born in me.
Give me a new love.
A new courage to witness and tell others about you.
A new power to unite a divided world.
In Jesus’ name. Amen!

Gospel
John 14:1-12

In this passage, Jesus comforts his disciples, urging them not to be troubled but to trust in God and in him. He speaks of his Father’s house with many rooms, declaring that he is going to prepare a place for them and will return to take them there. Thomas asks how they can know the way, and Jesus responds with the profound claim that he himself is the way, the truth, and the life—no one comes to the Father except through him. He then tells Philip, who asks to see the Father, that seeing Jesus is seeing the Father, because Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in him. Jesus points to his works as evidence of this union. He promises that whoever believes in him will also do the works he has done, and even greater ones, because he is going to the Father. The passage emphasizes trust, Jesus’ divine identity, and the empowerment of believers through his departure.

Gospel
John 20:1-9

On the first day of the week, early in the morning while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found the stone rolled away from the entrance. She immediately ran to Simon Peter and the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, reporting that the Lord’s body had been taken, though she did not know where. The two disciples raced to the tomb; the other disciple outran Peter but paused at the entrance, where he saw the linen cloths lying there. Peter arrived next, entered the tomb, and observed not only the linens but also the face cloth that had covered Jesus’ head, folded separately in its own place. Then the other disciple went inside, saw the evidence, and believed. As of yet, they did not understand the Scripture that Jesus must rise from the dead. The scene captures the transition from confusion and grief to the first glimmers of resurrection faith.

The Easter Vigil – The Mother of All Holy Hours 🌅 Tonight, we gather in darkness… but we do not stay there.

We begun the most glorious night of the Church year. From the blessing of the New Fire and the lighting of the Paschal Candle, through the ancient prophecies, to the first joyous "Alleluia" since Lent began – this is the night when Christ broke the chains of death and rose in glory.

The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew.
Matthew 26:14-27:66

In the passage, Judas Iscariot agrees to betray Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. During the Last Supper, Jesus institutes the Eucharist, foretelling Peter’s denial. In Gethsemane, he prays in anguish while the disciples sleep. Judas arrives with a crowd; Jesus is arrested, and his disciples flee. Before the Sanhedrin, false witnesses testify, and Jesus acknowledges he is the Messiah, leading to a charge of blasphemy. Peter denies knowing him three times, weeping bitterly. Judas, remorseful, hangs himself. Jesus is brought before Pilate, who offers to release him, but the crowd demands Barabbas. Pilate washes his hands; Jesus is scourged, mocked, and crucified. Darkness falls, and he dies, his body placed in a tomb sealed by the authorities.
