Welcome home Geshe Namdak 🙏🏻 Yesterday evening Geshe Namdak returned home to Jamyang from his summer retreat - we were pleased to welcome and greet him as the centre reopens for a new season of teachings and practice. Rejoice!

Fifty people have already taken their place on Exploring Buddhism: Mind and View, our new course with Geshe Tenzin Namdak, and we could not be happier to welcome them.

Beginning on Monday 21 September and running gently through to April, with a restful pause in the depths of winter for your own study and practice, this is an unhurried way to come to know Geshe-la and to meet the teachings of the Buddhadharma more closely.

If you have studied Discovering Buddhism, this is a natural next step. And if you are newer to all of this, simply curious and not yet ready for a full programme, you are just as welcome.

This Thursday's Medicine Buddha Puja will be dedicated to everyone affected by the flash floods in Nepal and Tibet: those who have lost their lives, those still missing, and the many families now without homes.

The floods struck on 26 August along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers, sweeping through settlements near the Nepal–Tibet border. The scale of loss is hard to take in, and among those caught up in it were pilgrims and trekkers travelling through the Himalayas.

In the Medicine Buddha Puja we make offerings alongside prayer and mantra, recitation, creating conditions for healing and the removal of obstacles, and dedicating that merit to all who are suffering. On this day we hold Nepal and Tibet in our practice together.

His Eminence Serkong Tsenshap Rinpoche comes to Jamyang on 23 and 24 September for two evenings of teachings, his first ever visit to the United Kingdom.

Rinpoche is the recognised reincarnation of one of the seven Tsenshaps, the master debate partners to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and was appointed by Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche as one of three lamas to offer spiritual direction to the FPMT.

The topics are now confirmed. On the first evening, Rinpoche teaches on the Four Immeasurable Thoughts, the boundless qualities of love, compassion, joy and equanimity. On the second, he turns to the Nature of Mind.

To welcome a lama of this standing to London for the first time is a rare privilege. You are warmly invited to join us, in person or online.

On 26 August, a flash flood struck the border area between Nepal and Tibet, affecting villages across Rasuwa and the neighbouring districts. Homes, roads and bridges have been lost, and many people remain unaccounted for.

A number of the monks and nuns at Kopan Monastery are from these districts. Some of their families are still missing, and many have lost their homes.

FPMT is working alongside Kopan Monastery, which knows these communities and can help ensure that support reaches those who need it most. Donations to the FPMT Emergency Relief Fund provide immediate help to families who have lost their homes, along with medical care and other essential services.

Today we say thank you and farewell to Alxe, who is departing Jamyang this weekend. 💛

Just over a year ago, Alxe joined us as a residential karma yogi, having already given a lifetime of service at a Zen monastery in America. She came to reconnect with her Tibetan Buddhist roots, her teachers, and her practice, and we were so glad to welcome her onto the team.

Many of you will know her. As our Gompa Keeper, she set up the four weekly pujas Jamyang offers for the community, and cared for all our daily offerings. She opened the centre, trained new arrivals, cared for our volunteers, supported Geshe Namdak's projects, and kept us all going with regular deliveries of vegan doughnuts!

But more than any single role, Alxe made people feel at home. Students, guests at the Lotus Guesthouse, visitors, school groups, contractors: whoever came through our doors, she always took a moment to say hello.

Now she is off to Santa Fe to offer service at Thubten Norbu Ling! We could not be more delighted that she continues to offer service and stays part of the FPMT family.

Thank you for everything, Alxe. We cannot wait to see what you and your new community do together. 🙏

In his kindness, H.E. Jhado Rinpoche has confirmed his teachings on the Three Principal Aspects of the Path and lojong can be joined online, on Wednesday 9 September from 13:00 to 17:00.

Join us for these wonderful teachings, wherever you are, as we have the auspicious honour of offering the first turning of the Dharma Wheel at the start of Rinpoche's European tour.

These are sutra teachings and open to everyone - The initiations and jenangs across the five days remain in person only.

Exploring Buddhism: Mind & View is the recommended preparation for Jamyang's next cycle of the FPMT Basic Program, which begins in Spring 2027.

The Basic Program is five and a half years of textual study, working with root texts by Nagarjuna, Chandrakirti, Shantideva and Dharmakirti. It is a wonderful and rare opportunity to study the Dharma in-depth. Geshe Namdak's advice is that the two topics covered in Mind & View, ideally supported by Discovering Buddhism, give you the grounding the programme expects.

For anyone not going on to the Basic Program, Mind & View stands on its own merit, and is a wonderful opportunity to study with Geshe-la.

His Eminence Serkong Tsenshap Rinpoche visits the United Kingdom for the first time this September, and will teach at Jamyang London on two evenings.

Rinpoche is the recognised reincarnation of Kyabje Tsenshap Serkong Tugse Rinpoche, one of the seven Tsenshabs, or master debate partners, to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. He teaches with clarity, warmth and humour, and supports many students in their philosophical training through the Serkong Institute for Buddhist Studies.

Both evenings can be attended in person at the Old Courthouse or online, and you can book either evening on its own or both together. Scholarships are available thanks to the kindness of sponsors and Friends of Jamyang.

Exploring Buddhism: Mind & View is now open for enrolment. Teachings begin on Monday 21 September.

Over seven months, Geshe Tenzin Namdak will teach Exploring the View, Tenets and the Middle Way, and Venerable Tenzin Gendun will teach Exploring the Mind. Two of the eight modules from the FPMT Exploring Buddhism programme, taught live on Monday evenings from 18:30 to 20:00, in person at Jamyang and online.

26 teaching sessions, monthly review sessions on Zoom, a WhatsApp group for the cohort, and recordings of everything so you can go back to it.
