We are delighted to invite our local community and nieghbours to our 15th Annual Neighbourhood Open Day on Sunday, 20th September 2026, from 12 noon to 5 PM at our Mosque. As part of the national initiative, we look forward to welcoming hundreds of guests from all walks of life to this special community event.

This year’s Open Day carries even greater importance. In light of recent challenges—including far-right riots and hostile demonstrations targeting minority groups, events like these are a peaceful and powerful way to bring communities together, celebrate unity, and stand up to hate through understanding, dialogue and kindness.

Reclaiming the Summer Holidays for Faith, Family & Growth workshop

The summer holidays are not simply a break from school. They are an opportunity to revive the family institution.

This interactive workshop by Shaikh Faisal Khajjou equips parents with practical Islamic guidance on making the most of six weeks that are often wasted and how to transform them into the most purposeful season of your family’s year.

We will explore parenting as an amānah from Allah, the real challenges facing Muslim families today, and how the summer holidays can become a time to strengthen family bonds, nurture your children’s faith and character, and build a home environment that lasts long after September.

You will leave with a clear Islamic framework, practical strategies, and a complete family planning toolkit.

We hosted a second Mindsavers Workshop in partnership with the British Islamic Medical Association (BIMA) and Islington Council and was delivered by dedicated healthcare professionals, the session explored the theme “5 Pillars for Better Mental Health: A Practical Framework for Muslims.” Attendees were guided through faith-based principles and practical tools to help them:
•⁠ ⁠Understand mental health from an Islamic perspective
•⁠ ⁠Support their own wellbeing
•⁠ ⁠Recognise and support others in need

Our facilitators highlighted how faith, gratitude, community, and self-care work hand-in-hand to nurture both our spiritual and emotional wellbeing. Participants also shared personal reflections, and many spoke about how the workshop helped them see mental health in a new, compassionate light.

9 years ago, Makram Ali tragically lost his life in the Finsbury Park terror attack with 11 people injured, some of them with life changing injuries a moment that deeply shook the community but also brought people together in powerful solidarity.

Today, we gathered at the new plaque tree for a moving commemorative event to honour his memory. Wreaths were laid, prayers were offered for Makram Ali and for all those affected, and messages of peace and unity were shared by people of all faiths and none.

In the face of hatred, we stood side by side united in grief, resilience and hope. The event reflected the enduring strength of our diverse community and our shared commitment to stand against hate in all its forms.

Our heartfelt thanks to our both local MP’s Rt Hon Jeremy Corbyn and Emily Thornbery, Deputy Mayor of London for policing and crime Kaya Comer-Schwartz and Deputy Mayor of London Dr Debbie Weekes, the Mayor of Islington council , the Metropolitan Police, faith and community leaders and everyone who came together to support this important day of remembrance.

Makram Ali will never be forgotten. We will continue to honour his legacy by building a future rooted in compassion, respect and unity.

The Finsbury Park Mosque urges everyone eligible to register to vote and make their voice heard in the local election on Thursday 7 May.

The deadline to register to vote is 11:59 pm 20 April.

This election matters greatly to our communities. With rising living costs, growing concern for families, and more hateful politics entering public life, it is important that our communities are not ignored or left out.

Casting your vote is an important act of civic duty. By voting, we help protect the wellbeing of our communities and contribute to the good and prosperity of the UK
