This coming Sunday June 7th at St Alphege we keep the great feast of Corpus Christi. This is Latin for Body of Christ. On this special day we give thanks to God for the great gift of the Eucharist, Holy Communion and our own lives as communicant members of the body of Christ.
The celebration of the Mass each day and each week in our church is much more than just a memorial meal. In the ancient Jewish understanding of Passover, families celebrating the Passover event don't just remember, they believe that as they remember the actual event they make it present as a reality in the present moment. The Greek word 'anamnesis' linked to memory has always suggested that remembering a significant event allows us to experience it in reality afresh. It also applies to the Holy Eucharist, so as we remember Jesus and his words of institution at the Last Supper, his Body and Blood become real for us, in other words far more than just an act of remembrance. He is truly present with us in bread and wine, which through the operation of the Holy Spirit becomes Jesus for us.
Our Mass is at 10am followed by Benediction.
All are welcome to join us.
Perhaps its a while since you made your Communion, then this might be the most appropriate day to come to the altar of the Lord.
