Missio

Missio We are the Pope's official charity for world mission. Whatever our missionaries need to help them share the joy of the Gospel, Missio strives to provide it.

Missio ignites God’s love by helping local missionaries to work alongside global communities that are poor or in need, regardless of their background or belief. Sometimes this need might be very specific: a motorbike for a Priest to celebrate Mass in remote villages; a simple community hall so people can gather together; vaccinations to protect vulnerable children. By supporting Missio, you play a

vital part in creating a vibrant Catholic Church for the future. By volunteering, raising or donating funds, and by praying with children, grandchildren or students, YOU make our mission possible. Together we are enriching today’s global Catholic community. Together we are training tomorrow’s generation of Priests and Sisters. Together we are giving hope to the world’s poorest children. Together we are Missio.

What is Mission? What do missionaries actually do? And why? In this 100th year of World Mission Sunday, it seems a good time to share the answers to these fundamental questions, which sit at the heart of Missio’s work.

💧 This Week's Mission Rosary: For the Care of Water

This week, we join the Holy Father in praying for water: a gift from God, a source of life and a resource that should be shared fairly by all. Join us as we pray for communities around the world who are struggling to access clean, safe water.

We pray for fair access to water:
💛 Asia – communities facing droughts, floods and rivers drying out
💙 Oceania – Pacific Island communities seeking safe water and sanitation
🤍 Europe – rivers and waterways harmed by pollution and industrial run-off
❤️ Americas – people without clean, safe water due to overconsumption and misuse
💚 Africa – more than 400 million people without adequate water and sanitation

On 24 September in Saint Louis, Missouri, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen will be declared ‘Blessed’. This moment carries a special resonance for Missio; from 1950 to 1966, Archbishop Sheen was National Director of Missio in the United States, and we still pray the Mission Rosary he created each week – just one of the many ways he sought to share the love of Jesus with the whole world.

🌍 This Week's Mission Rosary: Season of Creation

As the Season of Creation begins, we hold in prayer everyone in the world who is affected by extreme weather and global warming. May we, as one global family, join together in love to bring about stability and safety to the planet, its people and its precious natural habitats.

We pray for creation and those affected by climate crisis:
💛 Nepal – survivors of catastrophic mudslides, protection from extreme weather
💙 Oceania – rising sea levels threatening precious island nations
🤍 Iceland – protecting the Arctic and precious environments
❤️ Colombia and Venezuela – recovery and rebuilding after devastating earthquakes
💚 Western Africa – protection from extreme weather, coastal erosion and flooding

We hold the people of Nepal in prayer following the shocking mudslides which have claimed so many lives. May God's goodness shine through all those who are providing help and may those who have died find rest in God's embrace.

Around the world, so many of our sisters and brothers face unimaginable hardship - both natural disasters such as the recent earthquakes in Venezuela and Colombia, and man-made, such as the ongoing conflicts in South Sudan, the Holy Land and Ukraine. We hold them all in our hearts. May the love of Jesus comfort them and may we all work to create a safer and fairer world where every child of God can live in dignity.

🏙️This Week's Mission Rosary: Cities of Faith – evangelisation and hope in urban worlds

In his August prayer intention, the Holy Father reminds us that cities can be places of freedom and opportunity, yet also of anonymity and isolation. Through our Mission Rosary this week, we pray for all who live in cities and the mission of the urban Church. May we be a Church that goes forth: all of us as bold, creative missionaries who sow fraternity and connection, ensuring no one feels invisible.

We pray for cities across five continents:
💛 Asia – discovering Gospel opportunity amidst lights and shadows
💙 Oceania – going to peripheries, reaching migrants and Indigenous peoples
🤍 Europe – consoling the lonely with renewed faith and fraternity
❤️ Americas – protecting vulnerable youth, ensuring they are valued and cherished
💚 Africa – accompanying rural migrants, providing welcome and hope

'Good Shepherd, You walk through our streets and squares, enter tall buildings and humble neighbourhoods, and silently accompany millions who seek meaning amid noise and haste.' – Pope Leo XIV, Prayer Intention for August

🍽️This Week's Mission Rosary: God's Table is Set for Everyone

On Sunday 16 August, Pope Leo XIV reflected on the Canaanite woman whose faith transcended boundaries and who was welcomed at God's table despite all obstacles. Through our Mission Rosary, we pray that we, as a global Church, will move beyond established boundaries, break down barriers of discrimination and ensure that every person has their rightful place at God's table.

We pray:
💛 For all who live at the margins – that the Church welcomes all without hesitation
💙 To be ‘surprised’ by God's work – listening to unexpected voices and overlooked wisdom
🤍 For those facing barriers to belonging – migrants, refugees, religious minorities, poor communities
❤️ For humility and courage – welcoming others as we are welcomed
💚 As one family – drawing strength from our global Church to renew the earth
