The gates of Hell shall not prevail against us.

The attack on the Pulse Night Club in Orlando Florida is the worst gun massacre in the United States, ever. It is a specific attack on the LGBT community and it is a specific attack on equality, inclusivity and human rights. Today at All Saints’ Putney Common we are flying the Rainbow Flag outside in our church grounds, as a sign of our solidarity with the LGBT community across the world.

Hatred will not win. Prejudice will not triumph. Religious Fundamentalism of all kinds will fall to dust. We have a proud tradition of inclusivity at All Saints’ and in the Parish of Putney. Today we stand proud of that inclusivity.

Sometimes the Christian church has contributed to the persecution of Gay and Le***an people. This is a shameful part of our past but it must be ‘the past’. Our future is one of championing love and human rights in all of its forms. It’s the way of Jesus Christ and it is the way God intends it to be. It is what the church is here to do, across Putney and beyond.

I am proud to fly the Rainbow flag outside All Saints’ Church, so that our Community knows without doubt, who we are and what we stand for.

We stand with Orlando.
