Variety Sunday theme Black History Celebration.

Great celebration, great discussions today.

Summery:
- Mary Seacole: a nurse who was remembered 100years later.
- Katherine Johnson: Afro American, Aerospace engineer who did thankless but vital works. Check it out in ' Hidden Figure' film.
- Jesse Owens: athlete, an Olympic legend.
- Oluadah Equiano: a Nigerian who campaigned for the abolishment of slavery.
- Windrush: after 2nd world war, Britain needed workers to rebuild the nation. Windrush generation arrived from the Caribbean in 1948.
- Black Panther: founded by Bobby Seale.
- Jacob's favourite son (Joseph) was lured, trapped, sold and transported against his will to do forced labour in a country utterly alien to him in language, custom and religion (Genesis 45).
Conclusion:
We can overcome our tendercy towards discrimination by modelling Jesus' attitude of humble service (Matthew 20:28).
Romans 12: 5. so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

Variety Sunday Discussions

Topic: Talent, gift and skill.

1- Talent us an unsual abilities to do something well / extraordinary. Talent can be personal and yoy can chose to share it.
In the Bible, Talent can be a monetary unit. Talent of Gold (1kings 14:28) and Talent if Silver (2Kings 5:22-23/ 2Kings 18:14). Parable of the Talent (Matt 25:14-30).

2- Gift is non tangible nor physical, therefore SPIRITUAL. They are expression of our uniqueness - calling. A man's gift will make a way for him (Prov.18:16). God's gifts are irrevocable. Gifts of the spirit- Wisdom, knowledge, prophesy, discernment, speaking in tongues, interpretation of tongues, faith, healing (1Cor 12:1). Use your gifts to excel (1Cor14:12).

3- Skill is physical, the creativity in us. Skill full person develop to be a professional in what they do. God bless our skills, the work of our hands (Deut 33:11). We also have soft skills such as communication, problem solving, leadership and people skills.
Example of skills are swimming, driving, sewing, etc.

You can lose skill (de-skilled) but can't lose gift and talent. However, you can enhance / develop all three.

- Talent & gift are intuition while skill is by tuition.
- You can express your gift through talent.
- We can develop our talent into skill.

Conclusion:.
- You have different kinds of talent, gift & skill for the same purpose (1Cor 12:4-6).
