Abu Hurayrah (raa) caught a thief raiding the charity food three nights running, and let him go each time on a promise. The thief finally offered him something instead: recite Ayatul Kursi before sleep, and a guardian from Allah stays with you until morning, keeping Satan away. The Prophet (peace be upon him) confirmed it: "He told you the truth, though he is a habitual liar. That was a jinn" (Bukhari).
