SATURDAY 12 September: CARE FOR CREATION
Season of Creation – Renewal
‘Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands. Wild animals will say ‘Thank you!’ – the coyotes and the buzzards – because I provided water in the desert, rivers through the sunbaked earth, drinking water for the people I chose, the people I made especially for myself, a people custom-made to praise me.’ (Isaiah 43:19-21, MSG)
Read these words a few times over, noticing all the ways in which God promises to bring renewal, not just in a spiritual way but in physical, social and ecological ways too.

FRIDAY 11 September: GROWING IN FAITH
Cadets of the Rescued Session
‘For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.’ (Colossians 1:13, chosen as the key verse for this session)
I pray that our session will bond quickly with one another as friends and companions in the gospel. I pray that this time together in college will be marked by increased spiritual zeal and insight. I pray that the college will become a greenhouse for our growth, and that our expectations for what we will learn will be blown away. I pray that intellectual accumulation will give way to heart transformation.

THURSDAY 10 September: INTERNATIONAL SALVATION ARMY
Canada and Bermuda Territory
As the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in Canada, The Salvation Army is involved in helping to make millions of people’s lives better. Give thanks for all the good work being done, and pray that the Army will realise its vision for being ‘an innovative partner, mobilised to share hope wherever there is hardship, building communities that are just and know the love of Jesus’. Pray for the territorial leadership team of Commissioners Lee and Debbie Graves and Colonel Margaret McLeod.

WEDNESDAY 9 September: JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION
The Big Connection – Fundraising as mission
We pray for those who have decided to take up the challenge of the appeal, and to invite others into the sacrificial act of giving, so that they too may experience its transformative effects. Let us pray for everyone who gives, that they will discover the freedom and joy that come with generosity. May they know the truth of Jesus’ words about the lilies of the field who neither toil nor spin (Luke 12:27), that as they give to others to further the work of justice in our world, God will provide what they need.

TUESDAY 8 September: SERVING AND CARING
South East Division – Rest and retreat
As women from across the South East Division meet together for their first divisional Riverbank, and as spiritual leaders share in a time of retreat this month, pray that they will find time to rest in God’s presence. Pray that they will be able to step away from the noise of the world to meet with God.

MONDAY 7 September: SHARING THE GOOD NEWS
South East Division – Remembering summer camps
Today we pray for those who have attended summer schools or camps over the summer months. May they remember that they are seen, known and loved by God as they go back into their everyday lives at corps across the division. May God give their corps ears that are ready to hear from the young people as they share their experiences and all they have heard from the Holy Spirit.

SUNDAY 6 September: SABBATH PRAYER
Dreaming of Freedom
‘The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey …’ (Exodus 3:7-8, NIV)
Lord, you are the God who hears our cry when we are suffering. You are the God who rescues us, time and time again, and no matter how trapped life may feel, you are the God who keeps alive in us the dream of freedom.
We pray today for individuals who are trapped in exploitation and slavery, just as your people were in Egypt. Hear their cry, we pray, and bring them to freedom in a new promised land.

SATURDAY 5 September: CARE FOR CREATION
Season of Creation – Dry lands
‘I am creating something new. There it is! Do you see it? I have put roads in deserts, streams in thirsty lands.’ (Isaiah 43:19, CEV)
Creator God, we give you thanks for the changing seasons which remind us of your faithfulness. We hold in our hearts those places where desert dryness has turned to wildfire over recent months, asking you to send water where it is so desperately needed. And we own our part in doing what we can to help the natural world to flourish.

FRIDAY 4 September: GROWING IN FAITH
Cadets of the Rescued Session
‘For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.’ (Colossians 1:13, chosen as the key verse for this session)
Pray for me and my fellow cadets, that we will be sensitive, obedient and dependent on the Lord throughout this next season of training for officership. Pray that we won’t take what was started in the Spirit and try to finish it in the flesh (Galatians 3:3). We know that there is academic and practical training to be undertaken, but pray that we won’t want to let practical demands distract us from what the Lord wants to continue to speak to us in this next chapter.

THURSDAY 3 September: INTERNATIONAL SALVATION ARMY
Democratic Republic of Congo Territory
The DRC Territory has almost 500 schools across the country, where the love of God is shared and local communities are served. Pray for children attending these schools, often in the midst of conflict, that they will be given a grounding from which to build a healthy, hopeful life, and that they will leave with a deep experience of Jesus in their hearts. Pray for the territorial leadership team: Colonels Dieudonné and Philippine Tsilulu and Lieut-Colonels Ayami and Mangituka Mabundu.
