EHRS is ready for Rosh Hashanah!

Led by Annita Tischler, our Senior Warden, the adornments of our Sifrei Torah have been cleaned, the Torah scrolls have been set ready for reading, and the Torah mantles have been changed to white for the season. Thank you to all the lovely volunteers who helped!

We wish everyone L’Shana Tovah U’Metukah – a sweet and happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you in shul over Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

We were proud to see Rabbi Debbie representing EHRS on BBC’s Sunday Morning Live this Sunday, speaking about Rosh Hashanah and the meaning of this special time in the Jewish calendar.

As we prepare to welcome the New Year, Rosh Hashanah gives us an opportunity to pause, reflect, look forward with hope, and think about the kind of community and world we want to help build.

📺 Watch it on BBC iPlayer:

After weeks of glorious sunshine, on Saturday, the clouds decided to open just in time for our Bark Mitzvah – and instead of the synagogue courtyard, the lounge at EHRS was filled with wet dogs, damp coats and plenty of wagging tails, as our community came together to celebrate our four-legged friends and the special place animals hold in our lives. 🐶

Fifteen dogs and their devoted owners gathered to mark Rosh Hashanah La’Behemot – the New Year for Animals, traditionally commemorated around the first of Elul. Led by Cantor Tamara Wolfson alongside her dog Maisie, the service included blessings of gratitude for the gift of animal companionship and a moment to remember beloved pets who are no longer with us.

We also heard about the vital work of Israel Guide Dog Centre UK, learning how guide dogs and other service animals change and save lives every day.

For the fourth year running, the Bark Mitzvah demonstrated just how special it is when our community comes together to celebrate compassion, companionship and our love for animals.

Shanah Tovah to all creatures great and small!

Our Eco Team recently visited Kaytana to help the children build a bug hotel! They learned about the different materials bugs use for nesting, chose their favourite bugs, and filled empty toilet rolls with cosy natural materials. These were then placed in a reused fruit crate lined with a waterproof membrane to create a welcoming home for insects.

It was a wonderful way to learn about the small creatures that play such an important role in our ecosystem, while encouraging the children to care for and protect the world around us... just one of the many ways we put our eco values into action at EHRS.

Our newest bug hotel is now outside and ready for its tiny residents! 🐝🐞🦋

At EHRS, we’re committed to creating a community where everyone feels welcome, understood and supported – including those living with hidden disabilities.

From our Senitt Sensory Room and SEND support to staff training and inclusive programming, we’re continuing to make inclusion part of every aspect of community life.
