We were honoured to welcome Bishop Lindsay Urwin OGS, who presided at Mass at St Mary’s yesterday.

Afterwards, Bishop Lindsay visited our friends at The Norwegian Seamen's Church in Rotherhithe, pictured here.

We look forward to welcoming him back to St Mary’s Rotherhithe again next Sunday ✠

In memoriam: Fr Nick Richards † 🍻

Today we remember with gratitude and affection Fr Nick Richards, former Rector of St Mary the Virgin, Rotherhithe, on the twentieth anniversary of his death.

We give thanks for his ministry, his service to the parish, and the lives touched during his time at St Mary’s.

Twenty years on, we commend him once more to the mercy and keeping of Almighty God.

Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord,
and let light perpetual shine upon him.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory. Amen. ✠

The once-nearby All Saints Church, built in 1840 and sadly destroyed during the Second World War.

It would be fascinating to hear from anyone who remembers All Saints, worshipped there, or whose family had connections with the church. Perhaps some members of its former congregation later found a home here at St Mary’s, Rotherhithe

A BBC production is filming at The Mayflower, next door to St Mary’s. Our church hall, yard and car park are being used as production support facilities for the cast and crew.

Always good to see St Mary’s supporting activity in the heart of Rotherhithe 📺⛪🎥

From September 2026, eligibility for Free School Meals in England is being extended to all children in households receiving Universal Credit, regardless of household income.

More than 500,000 additional children are expected to become eligible.

Many families may not yet know about the change, so please help us spread the word throughout our community. If you know a parent or carer who may benefit, please pass this on and encourage them to check their eligibility and apply.

🍽️ No child should miss a meal simply because their family did not know they were entitled to one.

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary ✠

This morning at St Mary the Virgin, Rotherhithe, we were delighted to welcome Bishop Peter Wheatley, who presided and preached at our Parish Mass as we celebrated the glorious Assumption of Our Lady.

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.” (Luke 1.46–47)

May Mary’s song of faith and joy remain ours, as with her we magnify the Lord and rejoice in the great things he has done.
