Unitarian London District & S E Provincial Assembly The LONDON DISTRICT and South Eastern PROVINCIAL ASSEMBLY of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches What do Unitarians Offer? What do Unitarians do in the world?

About Us

This page will tell you a little about Unitarianism how it is practised on London and the South East. Unitarianism is a liberal religious faith

Unitarians are religious people, heirs to a historical tradition of over 400 years, who recognize and seek wisdom in all the world's great religious, philosophical, and artistic traditions. Unitarian congregations offer weekly worship services

that draw upon the breadth of these great sources of inspiration. Unitarians believe that each individual is on their own spiritual journey, but that together we can journey toward wholeness. Unitarian churches offer a liberal religion that draws from many faith traditions. Unitarians are people who identify as Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Pagans, Atheists, and others. Unitarians are encouraged to search for truth on their own spiritual path. It is the only religion to come together in a blessed community with such a wide range of beliefs. Unitarians have historically had an impact on social and political reform far greater than our small numbers would suggest. Many Unitarians have been pioneers in numerous fields, based on our declared commitment to social justice and equality. We were the first denomination to ordain women as ministers, and also the first to ordain openly gay men and women. Individual Unitarians have their own particular causes, but among the issues which the denomination continues to take the lead on are gay and le***an rights, animal welfare and penal reform. The LDPA (Pulse) serves the 28 Unitarian congregations in Southeast England, including 9 congregations in London.

A concert of ‘music on the lighter side’ was the highlight of our District’s Summer Quarterly at Horsham Unitarian Church on Saturday 28 August, with Unitarian stars Andrew Wickens (violin) and Liz Hills (piano) performing. Favourites included George Gershwin’s ‘Summertime’, as well as music from Aaron Copland, Scott Joplin and composers from around the world.
About 30 Unitarians attended the gathering, from congregations across the District, for this our first ‘in-person’ Quarterly for 18 months. The District Minister, Rev’d Jim Corrigall, had earlier led a celebratory service of worship exploring links between music, poetry and spirituality.
Good weather meant attenders were able to enjoy a splendid tea in the Church gardens at the end. A special thanks to Horsham for all the care they’d taken over the event, and for their generous hospitality.

Radical Roots ❤️✊👩‍👧‍👦

Rev Rosalind Lee - Unitarian minister and rescuer of child refugees from the N***s during the Second World War.

Born in Edgbaston, Birmingham in 1884, Rosalind studied at Cambridge, served in the Voluntary Aid Detachment during the First World War, and became a Unitarian minister in 1919.

In October 1938, with N**i Germany on the rise, Rosalind went to Prague where she met Nicholas Winton and Eleanor Rathbone. She led an operation which brought Jewish and non-Jewish children as refugees to Britain, similar to the famous Kindertransport operation. Rosalind adopted two of the children herself.

Reverend Lee served as President of the Unitarian movement in 1940-41, the second woman to hold the role, and worked as a minister in South Wales and the Midlands, as well as travelling the world as part of her work. She died in 1959, aged 76.

"We Love Jesus.
We Love Buddha too.
And Muhammad and Krishna and Moses and Guru Nanak and Julian of Norwich. And lots of others folks.

We find that when you look for it,
you find spiritual wisdom in lots of places.
And why should wisdom only come from one place?
Why should God only care about one religion?

What if God's love is bigger than any one religion?
What if God speaks in a thousand different voices?
Shouldn't we listen?

We believe that truth is bigger than any one religion.
We believe that love is bigger than any one belief."
