This morning the clergy of the partner churches of St Paul’s School distributed 420 of these cards at the school gate, praying God’s blessing on the children of our school at the beginning of a new school year.

This Sunday we celebrate a new feast in the Church of England’s calendar: Creation in Christ. As the Bishop of Lichfield explained at July’s General Synod, ‘The new title recognises the placing of Christ’s role in creation at the very centre: creation made through Christ, held together in Christ and destined for renewal in Christ. This Festival is an opportunity to give thanks for God’s gift of creation and to recognise our responsibility to cherish it.’

We can’t wait to welcome you at St Paul’s!

This September we are taking part in the Open House Festival. As well as being open every day (as we are anyway) there will be a small exhibition of the church’s history on the weekend of 19-20 September. Please note that the guided tours are now fully booked.

We are also looking for a few more volunteers to meet and greet people on both days; please contact Fr Daniel if you are able to help.

Lots of prayers for those starting a new term at school, nursery or college this week, especially for those starting in a new setting. May you all know God’s presence with you in the joys and the challenges of this academic year.

While on holiday in Malta last week, Fr Daniel made pilgrimage to St Paul’s Grotto in Rabat, where the apostle Paul stayed while shipwrecked on Malta in around 60AD. In this holy place, Fr Daniel made special prayers for our parish and school, which are under the patronage of St Paul.

Today is the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Eucharist will be said at 12.30pm. Please join us on this great holy day!

Almighty and everlasting God, who didst assume the immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of thy Son, in body and soul to heavenly glory: Grant, we beseech thee, that we, ever setting our affections on things above, may likewise be partakers of that glory in the world to come; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Unconscious bias training aims to help us understand how we might make assumptions about people based solely on what we see. Making assumptions is something we all do, probably without even realising. It is how we make sense of the world around us. Often, these assumptions are incorrect and can even be harmful, negatively impacting how people are addressed or the opportunities that they are given. As part of our commitment to maintaining an inclusive, welcoming church community, we are offering unconscious bias training to all who are interested in learning more. The 2-hour session will be run by Joanna Brown and Lola Cawood, and will held in the church hall on Saturday 19 September at 12pm. Please speak to or email Joanna at [email protected] if you would like to sign up or for more information.
