Kagyu Samye Dzong London

Kagyu Samye Dzong London Kagyu Samye Dzong London Tibetan Buddhist Centre first opened in April 1998 and provides a space of peace and tranquillity for all in the heart of the city.

We are affiliated to Kagyu Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in Scotland. We run a programme of courses and workshops focusing on meditation, Buddhism, and holistic therapies near the heart of central London. We also provide venues for community activities and alternative practitioners as well as a qualified Tibetan doctor who holds regular clinics where patients receive treatment using tradit

ional Tibetan methods. We are a branch of Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery in Scotland, which was established in 1967 and is under the direct guidance of Dr Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche and Venerable Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche. As part of the Kagyu Tradition, one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism, headed by His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje, the centres look to offer a constant programme of Buddhist teachings, meditation retreats and meditation instructions, along with courses in Tibetan language and art classes, as well as providing a place of calm for Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. Lama Gelongma Zangmo is the resident lama and teacher at our London branch. In the Kagyu Samye Dzong London centre at Spa Road, we have a lovely Tibetan Tea Room with a small reading library attached, and comfortable seating to enjoy a moment of relaxation. We also have a shop offering a wide selection of Buddhist books from all traditions, and a variety of related items, such as incense, meditation cushions, statues and malas.

I was deeply saddened to hear the news of the recent floods and landslides on the border between Nepal and Tibet. Hundreds of people—including many from Tibet and Nepal as well as visitors from all over the world—have lost their lives. Many more are still missing, and houses, buildings, and bridges have been swept away. Not only have many lost their lives, many people in this region have also lost their livelihoods.

Hearing of this, I felt we must do something to help. Thus I would like to ask the Kagyu monasteries and nunneries in Nepal to organize relief operations to bring aid to the people. I will provide support for these efforts.

As we can see with our eyes, the environmental situation throughout the world and in the Himalayas in particular has grown more severe. Temperatures have risen, glaciers are melting, and rainfall has grown stronger and more unpredictable, leading to floods, landslides, and severe storms throughout the world. But we see the destructive results most clearly in the Himalayas and the Tibetan plateau. I would like to ask everyone to do whatever you can to preserve and protect the environment so that we can prevent any future disasters.

Lama Zangmo visited the new Glasgow Samye Dzong for a talk and Q&A session.
It is a special place, built in the 1700’s, surrounded by gardens and woodlands with a bird sanctuary on the land. A sanctuary for all, humans and birds alike!

A Short Prayer for the Long Life of the Holders of the Kamtsang Lineage by His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje.

Through compassionate manifestations, Lokeshvara
Tames the many beings of all realms in the ten directions.
May the seventeenth emanation of Simha, the Sixth,
Live long, and may his activity flourish.

I pray that the Thousand Blazing Lights, the Dharma Lord Maitreya,
Vairochana embodied, the Lord of Secrets Vajrapani,
The greatest siddha Pawo, Nagarjuna’s emanation,*
And other precious great masters live long lives.

May all the great beings, wherever they may be,
Who preserve and spread the teachings of the Buddha
Live long and overcome all obstacles
So that the banner of the teachings may soar in all directions.

The first stanza transforms into a prayer an image from a dream I had in 2020, whereas the latter two were written for the long life of all those who uphold Buddhism in general and the traditions of the Practice Lineage in particular. Through this, may a blaze of auspiciousness ornament the world!
