E is for Experience
We concluded the teaching series on ´Shaped to make a difference’ last Sunday.

Pastor Soroye taught on how we can profit from our life experiences.

✨So remember your experiences and embrace them.
✨Explore them. Bring out the lessons. In all of our circumstances, look for a benefit. Look for patterns. Maturity is when you can extract meaning from the everyday experiences in life.
✨ Employ them. Seek how you can use these experiences to help others.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” -Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬ ‭

Glory to God! Join us in service tomorrow from 9:30AM✨

Forgive — Leave the Past Behind You -
(A Deep Scriptural Exploration of Freedom Through Forgiveness)

Forgiveness is not a minor theme in Scripture; it is central to the Gospel itself. The story of the Bible is the story of a holy God reconciling sinful humanity to Himself.

In the Holy Bible, from the books of Genesis to Revelation, forgiveness is the golden thread that reveals God’s mercy, justice, love, and redemptive power.

To forgive is to release the past and step into God’s future. It is not denial of pain; it is surrender of pain into God’s hands.

I. THE FOUNDATION OF FORGIVENESS: GOD’S CHARACTER
Forgiveness begins not with us, but with God.

- God Reveals Himself as Merciful. When God revealed Himself to Moses:

“The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin…” Exodus 34:6-7

- Forgiveness is not something God occasionally does — it is part of who He is.

“For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.” Ps. 86:5

“Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity… thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” Micah 7:18-19

Notice the imagery: sins removed, cast away, remembered no more.

II. FORGIVENESS FULLY REVEALED THROUGH CHRIST. The ultimate demonstration of forgiveness is found in Jesus Christ.

~ The Cross: Forgiveness at Its Highest Cost

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Rom. 5:8

~ Forgiveness is costly. It cost Christ His life.

“Having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us…” Col. 2:13-14

The “handwriting” refers to a legal debt. Forgiveness cancels the record.

~ Forgiveness spoken in suffering as He hung on the cross:

“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” Lk. 23:34

This was not forgiveness after repentance. It was forgiveness extended in the midst of cruelty through Christ:

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.” Eph. 1:7

~ Forgiveness flows from grace, not merit.

III. FORGIVENESS IS A DIVINE COMMAND. The one who receives forgiveness must also extend it.

- The Lord’s Prayer

“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”

Immediately after:

“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you…” Matt. 6:12

This shows the seriousness of unforgiveness. It obstructs spiritual fellowship.

- Unlimited Forgiveness. When Peter the Apostle asked:

“Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?” Matt. 18:21

Jesus replied: “I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.” Matt. 18:22

This signifies a lifestyle of forgiveness. Jesus then told the parable of the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18:23–35, illustrating the hypocrisy of receiving mercy but refusing to give it.

IV. UNFORGIVENESS: A SPIRITUAL PRISON. Unforgiveness binds the one who holds it.

“Lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you…” Heb. 12:15

Bitterness spreads like poison.

Proverbs 18:19 – “A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city…” Prov. 18:19

~Walls go up when forgiveness is withheld.
~Unforgiveness can result in:
~Emotional torment
~Broken relationships
~Spiritual stagnation
~Physical stress

In the parable of Matthew 18, the unforgiving servant was delivered to tormentors. The imagery suggests inner torment when mercy is refused.

V. LEAVING THE PAST BEHIND:

Forgiveness is inseparable from forward movement.

- Forgetting What Is Behind. The apostle Paul the Apostle wrote:

“Forgetting those things which are behind… I press toward the mark…” Phil. 3:13-14

Paul had a painful past — he persecuted believers, but he refused to let guilt define him.

- Forgiveness creates a new identity.

“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away…” 2 Cor. 5:17

- God Does a New Thing

“Remember ye not the former things… Behold, I will do a new thing.” Isaiah 43:18-19

God calls us forward, not backward.
Lot’s wife looked back and became a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26). Looking back can immobilize destiny.

VI. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF TRANSFORMING FORGIVENESS

~ JOSEPH: Purpose Over Pain
Joseph’s story unfolds in Book of Genesis (chapters 37–50). Betrayed, sold, imprisoned - yet when elevated, he said:

“You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good…” Gen. 50:20

Joseph reframed pain through God’s sovereignty.

~ STEPHEN: Forgiveness at Death. In Acts of the Apostles, Stephen prayed:

“Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.” Acts 7:60

He mirrored Christ in his final breath.

VII. PRACTICAL STEPS TO FORGIVE

- Admit the Wound: The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart.” Ps 34:18
- Healing begins with honesty.
- Choose Obedience. Forgiveness is a decision before it is a feeling.
- Pray for the Offender: “Love your enemies…” Matt 5:44
Prayer softens hardened hearts.
- Release Justice to God
–“Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” Rom. 12:19
- Trust God’s judgment.
- Renew Your Mind
- “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Rom. 12:2
- Replace replaying the hurt with rehearsing truth.

VIII. FORGIVING YOURSELF - Some struggle more with self-forgiveness than forgiving others.

-“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive…” 1 John 1:9
- “As far as the east is from the west…” Palm 103:12
- If God removes it, we must not resurrect it.
- The enemy accuses (Revelation 12:10),
- Christ intercedes (Hebrews 7:25).

IX. THE BLESSING OF LETTING GO

Forgiveness produces:
- Peace: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace…” Isaiah 26:3
- Freedom: “If the Son therefore shall make you free…” John 8:36
- Healing: “He healeth the broken in heart…” Psalm 147:3
- Restoration: “I will restore to you the years…” Joel 2:25

X. THE ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE

In Book of Revelation, we see a future where pain is removed: “God shall wipe away all tears…” Revelation 21:4
Forgiveness prepares us for that kingdom reality now.

CONCLUSION: Walk into your new season. Forgiveness is not forgetting by accident; it is releasing on purpose. It is declaring:

- The past will not control me.
- The offense will not define me.
- God’s purpose is greater than my pain.
- The cross proves love is stronger than hatred. Mercy triumphs over judgment (James 2:13).

Leave the past at the foot of the cross.
Release the weight.Step into grace and press forward into the future God has prepared for you.
