𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬
In the twentieth year of his reign (326), Emperor Constantine had a vision of the strength and power of the Cross & sent his mother Saint Helena to Jerusalem to venerate the holy places and to find the site of the Holy Sepulchre and of the Cross.
Relying upon the oral tradition of the faithful, Saint Helena found the precious Cross together with the crosses of the two thieves crucified with our Lord.
Saint Helena ordered a deceased body to be brought to her and asked for it to be placed on the 1st cross which nothing happened, She then ordered them to put the body on the 2nd cross and still nothing.
Again, she orders the body to be placed on the 3rd cross which then brought back life to the deceased body. This confirmed to Saint Helena that this was Christ’s Cross.
On the site of discovery, Constantine ordered the building of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Churches were also built on other sites detected by Helena.
During this feast let us remember how the instrument of shame was used to overcome death and bring salvation and eternal life. May this feast be a blessing to you and your household 🙏
Blessed is He Who by His Cross saved His Church, from the darkness and turned her toward Him; Lo she is crying out with the mouth of her children, praise to You Saviour of all.
Your Cross the watchful ones worship, and the multitudes and all the Angels; They all cry out equally; Blessed is He Who saved us by His Cross.
The early morning by which the just rejoice, is celebrated by the head of the spiritual ones; the Cross the fountain of aids, and the giver of all gifts.
Blessed is He Who by His Cross; saved our race from darkness and; made life to flow on the mortals; by the finding of His cross.
