A group of Religious of the Assumption Sisters from the Province of Europe, together with young adults from England, Belgium, Italy, and Lithuania, are participating in the 6th World Apostolic Congress on Mercy in Vilnius. The opening day brought together pilgrims, bishops, priests, and members of religious orders from around the world in a beautiful expression of the universality of the Church. The celebrations began with Mass on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi outside the Cathedral Basilica, followed by a Eucharistic procession through the streets of Vilnius to the Hill of the Saviour, where the official opening of the Congress took place. The gathering is centred on the theme, “Building the City of Mercy.”
Vilnius holds a unique place in the history of Divine Mercy. It was here that Saint Faustina received important revelations and where the first image of the Merciful Jesus was painted. From this city, the Church received five precious gifts of Divine Mercy spirituality: the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the Divine Mercy Image, the Feast of Divine Mercy, the Hour of Mercy, and the Novena to Divine Mercy. As the largest of the Baltic States, Lithuania's history of faith and resilience makes it a fitting place to gather and reflect on the message of God's mercy for the world today!
