A wonderful celebration of Ian Winton, who retires from the choir today after 55 years of continuous, dedicated and loyal service.

Ian’s length of service is such that he is on his 11th Director of Music and 7th Vicar, and for all who have come and gone in Southgate in that time, Ian has been part of the fabric of our choir and what makes it special.

Ian, thank you for your dedication to this choir, and to the music and worship in this place. And thank you for everything you have given to the people of Christ Church over the last 55 years.

Choral Services at Christ Church Southgate on Sunday 19 July - The Seventh Sunday after Trinity. All are very welcome.

It's the choir's last Sunday before a well-earned summer break. We'll be back on Sunday 6 September.

We also say thank you and farewell to bass Ian Winton, who is leaving the choir after a scarcely believable 55 years of loyal and dedicated service. Ian is on the right of the second picture outside Edinburgh Cathedral in 1980, for a service sponsored by Brylcreem...

Please join us and give Ian the send off he so richly deserves, thanking him for everything he has given to the choir and congregation at Christ Church.

🎶 Southgate Sessions – Free Sunday afternoon recitals at Christ Church 🎶

Join us for an afternoon of rarely heard gems, featuring some of the finest music of the 18th century for cello and harp played on original instruments.

Cervetto - Sonata no.4 in C minor

Paxton - Sonata no. 4 in F

Meyer - No.4 in F major

Cirri - Sonata no.4 in A major

Rosemary Edwards studied the modern cello with Bruno Schrecker, and at the Royal Academy of Music with Florence Hooton. Having spent four years in the Nürnberg Symphony Orchestra, she worked as a freelance orchestral player in London, mainly as a member of the orchestra of English National Ballet.

Rosemary studied baroque cello with Alice McVeigh and Jenny Ward Clark, and has played with The Hanover band and The English Haydn Orchestra. She plays an English cello from about 1800 and her bow is a copy by Matthew Coltman of one by John Dodd c. 1740.

Mike Parker studied harp building at the London College of Furniture, went on to study music history and performance with the Institute of Traditional Celtic Music, and in 2005, gained an MMus in performance from Goldsmiths College. Mike taught at the London College of Music Junior Department, where he is head of strings, and has three solo recordings

Mike’s harp was probably made in Paris c. 1790. It is a single-action harp with crochet mechanism, in which small hooks pull the strings against the neck.

Free to attend. All welcome.
