Heaton Park Synagogue Manchester, Yom Kippur, 9 Tishrei 5786, 2nd October 2025

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz. May thier memories be for a blessing.

We wish those injured a r'fu'ah sh'leimah and pray for the safety of all G-d’s people.

As Yom Kippur approaches, it is important to remembering that it is not the point of the day to suffer. Abstinence is not the same as self-flagellation, and should never come at the expense of a Jew’s health.

Your own wellbeing should come first, and if you need to either break your fast early or not fast at all, that is what you must do.

The important thing that we come together as a community, whether that be by attending services or giving support to those who need it.

Wishing you G’Mar Chatima Tova
A good final sealing.

A reminder that we will be celebrating Simchat Torah with Vivi Lachs and the Klezmer Klub! We’ve had the pleasure of their musical talents for Simchat Torah in previous years; they really know how to create the perfect atmosphere for the evening.

Tickets are free but any donations to go towards the cost of the night would be gratefully received.

The event will be 6:30pm tomorrow and we encourage anyone who would like tickets to reach out.

As we approach the day of atonement, it is important to remember to be kind to yourself. Atonement is not the same thing as punishment.

Before you fast, consider your health, your life, and reflect on whether doing so is right for you. If you have already made that decision, there is no shame in not observing the fast. Yom Kippur is as much for those who don’t fast as it is for those who do. It is a time for us to come together as a community and reflect.
