Rumi Mosque held a special prayer for rain in response to the drought and heatwave affecting the United Kingdom. Following the tradition we learn from the Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), we performed the rain prayer after both Friday congregational prayers last week. More than one thousand people joined the prayers at the close of two well-attended Friday congregations.
The first rain prayer was held in the mosque garden, in keeping with the Islamic tradition of performing this prayer outdoors whenever possible. The second was offered immediately after the second Friday congregation.
In our supplications, we prayed not only for our own congregation, but also for our country, Great Britain, for London, and for all people around the world, asking for mercy, blessings, and beneficial rain.
We prayed to Almighty God for the end of the drought, for the renewal of nature, and for all living beings to benefit from this mercy. The appearance of clouds in the sky shortly after the prayers brought hope and joy to our community. While we do not claim this as proof that our prayers were answered, we continue to hope in God’s mercy and pray that He grants beneficial rain to our country soon.
Rumi Mosque is a community organization inspired by the values of the Hizmet Movement, serving society and promoting the common good. Guided by our faith, we carry out our acts of worship not only for Muslims, but also for the well-being and safety of the society we live in and humanity as a whole.
On this occasion, we invite all our citizens to use water resources responsibly, care for our environment, and take responsibility together for our shared future, and we pray that Almighty God bestows mercy and blessings upon Great Britain, all people, and all living creatures.
