We have seen the reports of the devastating situation of flooding in Nepal and the desperate need for aid in the region. The British Mission Board have received reassuring news that the Moravian congregations based in Kathmandu have not been directly affected, being some distance away. The Chair of the South Asia Mission Province provided this update:

Situation right now seems to be under control especially in the impacted areas due to flash flooding. We are safe but many lives have been missing from many churches in those area. Pastors and church members are missing from many churches. There has been an ecumenical call to support during this time to help those missing families and to provide them with food and shelter as well. It would be a good opportunity to participate and serve as SAMC as a valuable partner in Ministry.

We continue to hold our brothers and sisters in the area in our prayers as they offer practical help to those in need. If you would like to make a contribution towards aid please follow this page for further updates or use this link for an independent donation: https://www.christianaid.org.uk/appeals/emergencies/nepal-floods-appeal

Today was a day of celebration and farewell. At a moving final service we remembered and gave thanks to those staff that are leaving; Graeme, Gladys and Sharon; those moving with us, Lorraine; and past and present Provincial Board members at Church House. As we close the doors at 5-7 Muswell Hill we give thanks and look forward to the future as Church House moves to Fulneck Moravian Settlement in Yorkshire.

Today we remember the manifestation of the Holy Spirit at Berthelsdorf in 1727.

The community at Herrnhut had known disagreement and division. In the months beforehand, they had committed themselves to reconciliation, prayer and the renewal of their life together. On 13th August, they gathered for Holy Communion at Berthelsdorf and experienced an extraordinary sense of the presence of the Holy Spirit and of their unity in Christ.

That experience would shape the life and witness of the Renewed Moravian Church for generations to come. We give thanks for the faith and witness of those who have gone before us.

As today’s Daily Text reminds us:

“He is mindful of his covenant forever, of the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations.”
Psalm 105:8

This year's Provincial Synod was enriched by the World Council of Churches' Rev. Dr Mikie Roberts, who led our morning prayers and Bible studies throughout the gathering.
Br Mikie, who is from the Moravian Church in the East West Indies Province and now serves with the WCC in Geneva, led our morning prayers and Bible studies throughout Synod. His thoughtful reflections grounded us in Scripture and Hymnody as we gathered under the theme "Faithfulness in a Time of Change."
