The most beloved meteor shower of the year peaks tonight, and this time the sky is perfectly dark for it.

The Perseids reach their peak overnight from August 12 into the early hours of August 13, producing up to 100 meteors per hour under ideal skies. These are fast, bright meteors that often leave glowing trails, debris shed by Comet Swift-Tuttle. Best of all, the peak falls on a New Moon this year, meaning no moonlight to wash them out.

🌠 Head somewhere dark after midnight, lie back, and give your eyes 20 to 30 minutes to adjust. Look toward the northeast, where Perseus rises. No equipment needed 🌠
