114 years of worship and welcome in this building.
Since October 1912 people have come through these doors to pray, to sing, to find sanctuary in the middle of a busy city. On Sunday, 4th October we're marking that with our Church Anniversary Lunch, and you're warmly invited.

It's a simple thing: sitting down together over good food, catching up with familiar faces, meeting some new ones, and giving thanks to God for 114 years of this congregation gathering here at Methodist Central Hall Westminster.

Fellowship is one of the ways we remember that church is people, not just a building, however remarkable the building.

Revd Tony Miles interviewed the new President and Vice President of the The Methodist Church during our Healing Service yesterday. As a church we heard about the two words that the President and Vice President are holding as their theme this year, 'Joy' and 'Sorrow' as well as the challenges for those who stand as President and Vice President.

The Revd Mark Slaney and Caroline Stead were elected and inducted as President and Vice-President of the Methodist Conference on Saturday 27 June 2026 at the Conference in Telford, for the 2026/27 connexional year. Mr Slaney serves as Chair of the Scotland District and the Shetland District. Mrs Stead has been a representative to the Conference since 2008. The President of the Conference is a presbyteral minister and the Vice-President is a lay person or deacon. Together they lead the Methodist Church in Britain for a year, visiting churches, districts and partners across the Connexion. Traditionally the President and Vice President kick-off the new Methodist year in London with a visit to our friends at Wesley's Chapel & Leysian Missionin the morning and ourselves at 6pm

Luke tells two healing stories at once: Jairus, respected and public in his faith, and an unnamed woman who had bled for twelve years and crept up behind Jesus hoping not to be noticed. Jesus stopped for her. He would not let her go home thinking herself second class, or guilty for taking what was in fact freely given.
God's grace is not rationed. Whether we come face to face or from behind, no one is unworthy.

Jairus’ faith was evident for all, so when Jesus acknowledged that it was the woman’s faith which healed her, then her faith was no longer hidden, she would be able to speak of her faith with others, profess it publicly now that she was no longer unclean.’

Last night we were delighted to welcome the President and Vice-President of The Methodist Church the Revd Mark Slaney and Caroline Stead, to Methodist Central Hall Westminster for our 6pm Healing Service.

Caroline preached on Luke 8, where two very different people come to Jesus. Jairus comes openly, face to face, pleading for his daughter. The woman who had been ill for twelve years comes quietly from behind, reaching out to touch the edge of his cloak. Both are met. Both are healed. Mark presided at Holy Communion where there was also the opportunity for those present to be anointed with oils and receive prayer for healing.

"Remember God's grace, God's love, is available to all," Caroline told us. "Have faith in him, for no-one is unworthy. Whether we feel as if we are approaching him face to face with a faith that is out in the open, or from behind, with a private faith, we can be assured that God looks us in the face and cradles us in his arms."

Thank you to Mark and Caroline for beginning the Methodist year with us. Our Healing Service is held every Sunday at 6pm, and everyone is welcome, whatever you bring with you.

Tonight at 6pm we welcome the President of the Methodist Conference, the Revd Mark Slaney, and the Vice-President, Caroline Stead, to Methodist Central Hall Westminster as they begin their presidential year.

It's a real privilege to host them at the start of a new Methodist year — and a lovely echo of the word Mark has said matters most to him as a Methodist: ALL. Everyone, everywhere, everything.
