If you’re an adult with a disability, or you know someone who is, why not come along and give it a try?
No experience needed—just bring yourself and get ready for music, joy, fun, and a brilliant atmosphere 🎤🥁🎵

🎶 Volunteer with The Music Man Project in Hackney! 🎶
We’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers to join our Music Man Project sessions at The Salvation Army, Mare Street. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of something joyful and inspiring—supporting fun, group-based music sessions for adults with disabilities.
Whether you love music, people, or simply want to make a difference, we’d love to welcome you! 💛
What you’ll be part of:
✨ Supporting singing, signing, and playing instruments
✨ Encouraging participants as they prepare for performances
✨ Helping with session set-up, refreshments, and creating a welcoming space
✨ Being part of a supportive and encouraging community
What to expect as a volunteer:
We want you to feel confident and supported every step of the way. Our process includes:
✅ A simple application and reference check
✅ Role-specific training (including safeguarding)
✅ Joining a warm, friendly, and supportive team
✅ Access to our online learning platform—with lots of courses you can explore in your own time
🕒 Sessions run 1:00–2:30pm
🙌 Volunteers needed from 12:15–3:00pm

Building a More Inclusive Church

We want our church to be a welcoming, inclusive, and safe space for people with disabilities, their families, and carers. As part of this commitment, we’re taking time to learn, listen, and reflect on how we do church together.

On Sunday 10th May, we’ll be hosting “Let’s Talk About Disability”, a one‑hour learning session led by Chris Stringer, Learning Disability Inclusion Development Manager for The Salvation Army (UK). This session focuses on understanding disability and inclusion within everyday church and community life.

We’re also planning an ALMA Autism training day on 11th July. ALMA Autism works with churches to raise awareness of autism, explore belonging and sensory differences, and support faith spaces to better include autistic people.
These steps form part of our ongoing work to ensure dignity, accessibility, and belonging for all.

🎶 Music Man Project Hackney – We’re Launched and Loving It! 🎶
Back in January, we were thrilled to officially launch Music Man Project Hackney, bringing joyful, inclusive, and confidence‑building music sessions to adults with learning disabilities right here in Hackney.

We’ve also loved seeing Music Man Project Hackney featured in the current Enabled newsletter, helping spread the word about inclusive music opportunities in our community.
Music Man Project Hackney is part of the award‑winning Music Man Project UK, a charity dedicated to accessible music education and performance for people with disabilities.
Since launching, our sessions have been filled with:
🎤 Singing
🥁 Playing instruments
🎼 Learning musical skills at your own pace
😊 Laughter, friendship, and lots of encouragement

⏰ Time: 1:00–2:30pm

🎵 Who: Adults with disabilities (no experience needed!)
