At least three major questions have dominated scholarly discussion of the book:
(1) Who produced the book? How did it come into existence? And what was its purpose?
(2) The ancient Greek translations differ significantly from the MT to varying degrees. What is a reliable text?
(3) The author or compilers of this history obviously had a particular interest in chronology.
Yet, on closer scrutiny, many of the chronological notices in the book appear mutually contradictory. How are we to understand or evaluate the chronological notices?
