Earlier this month we said farewell to our departing Form V choristers as the Abbey Choir sang their final service before their well-earned summer break.

We thank each of the boys and their families for their dedication and commitment to the choir.

The boys have all achieved music scholarships at their new schools and we wish them the very best as they move on to study at St Edward’s Oxford, The King’s School Canterbury, Gordonstoun, Lancing College and Charterhouse.

Earlier this month, we were honoured to welcome guests to the Abbey for an Evensong in remembrance of Lawrence Wallington, a former Lay Vicar who sang in the choir for over 40 years. Lawrence’s friends and family gathered afterwards for a reception in his honour, in a group which included Abbey musicians both past and present. In this wonderful picture, captured in the Abbey cloisters, you can see current and former Lay Vicars and organists, and even a former chorister! We remember Lawrence with love and gratitude for his long and distinguished service.

Last week was a busy one for the choir, including our successful performance of Handel's Alexander's Feast on Tuesday 16th June. The choir was joined by soprano Nardus Williams, tenor soloist and Lay Vicar Simon Wall and orchestra The English Concert. In the interval concertgoers toured the Abbey, pausing at Handel's memorial to enjoy the playing of harpist Oliver Wass - Harpist.

Saturday's Evensong included the premiere of a new set of canticles written for the choir by composer, conductor and organist Christopher Robinson, who has recently celebrated his 90th birthday.

Join Ben the Abbey verger for a sneak peak at the after-hours tour you'll experience in the interval of our performance of Handel's Alexander's Feast! The concert will take place on Tuesday 16th June at 7pm, and tickets are available at the link in the comments.
