THE RADIANCE OF THE AHMADI GEM
Introduction to the Spiritual Guide (Murabbi Ruhi), Shaykh Muhammad Fuad bin Kamaluddin Al Muhammadi (Shaykh of the Tariqah Ahmadiyah Idrisiah in Asia)
Shaykh Muhammad Fuad bin Kamaluddin Al Muhammadi was born on 16 September 1974, corresponding to 29 Shaʿban 1394 AH, in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.
From a young age, Dato’ Shaykh Muhammad Fuad bin Kamaluddin Al Muhammadi showed a deep love for religion and was actively involved in religious affairs. Even in his youth, he was entrusted by the local community to lead the congregational prayers in the surau of his hometown.
From childhood, Shaykh Muhammad Fuad bin Kamaluddin Al Muhammadi firmly held to the sulūk (spiritual path) of the Tariqah Ahmadiyah Muhammadiyah. He even once said:
أنا أحمدي وأنا في رحم أمي
“I was Ahmadi even while still in my mother’s womb.”
His devotion stemmed from his great love for Allah, His Messenger (SAW), and the tariqah of Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris (may Allah be pleased with him).
Because of this profound love for the Tariqah Ahmadiyah Muhammadiyah, Shaykh Muhammad Fuad bin Kamaluddin Al Muhammadi declared himself a Khadim Ni‘āl as-Sādah Tariqah Ahmadiyah Idrisiah – a devoted servant of the noble descendants of the tariqah. His primary mission is to serve the ummah and uphold the legacy of Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris.
It is therefore no surprise that he has spared neither time nor wealth in printing books and publishing manuscripts that discuss the sanctity and virtues of this noble tariqah.
Our Shaykh has never hesitated to travel the world to verify the authenticity of information attributed to the path of Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris. He has journeyed throughout Europe and the wider Muslim world in pursuit of the purity and originality of the spiritual method of his teacher, Sayyid Ahmad.
However, like all the heirs of the Prophets (warathatul-anbiyaʾ), trials and slander are part of their path. Shaykh Fuad has not been spared – despite his immense efforts, certain groups have slandered and falsely accused him. Yet he has faced all this with a broad heart and unwavering patience.
Day by day, he continues to intensify his efforts in dignifying and extending the work of Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris. Each year, majlis hauliyyah (commemorative gatherings) are held to explain and honour the great men of the Tariqah Ahmadiyah Muhammadiyah. To enhance the honour and blessings of these events, Shaykh Muhammad Fuad also invites the descendants (thuriyyah) of Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris – both from the lineage of Sayyid Abdul ʿAali Al-Idrisi and Sayyid Muhammad Ghawth Al-Idrisi.
He constantly connects both himself and his ikhwān (brothers) to Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris through chains of knowledge (sanad ʿilm) and tariqah (sufi initiation). He has compiled a book collecting these scholarly chains from Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris through his eldest son, Sayyid Muhammad Al-Ghawth, titled “An-Nasamat Al-Ghawthiyyah fi Marwiyyāt al-Ghawthiyyah” written in Malay so that the Ikhwan of the Tariqah Muhammadiyah Ahmadiyah in the Malay world may understand and benefit from it. This is only one of his many works, too numerous to list here, all reflecting his deep love for Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris and his ikhwan.
In terms of his spiritual lineage (sanad al-tariqah), he also makes it a point to connect himself and his ikhwan to Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris through both his family and close disciples. In his book titled “Al-Luʾluʾ an-Nafis al-Muntakhab min Asānīdi ilā Sayyidi Ahmad ibn Idris”, Shaykh Muhammad Fuad details the transmission chains that reach Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris. These include:
1. Sayyid Muhammad Al-Ghawth Al-Idrisi (eldest son of Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris, may Allah be pleased with him),
2. Sayyid Abdul ʿAali Al-Idrisi (youngest son of Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris),
3. Sayyid Muhammad ibn Ali As-Sanusi (foremost disciple of Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris),
4. Sayyid Muhammad Uthman Al-Mirghani (foremost disciple of Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris),
5. Sayyid Ibrahim Ar-Rashidi (foremost disciple and khalīfah of Sayyid Muhammad Al-Ghawth Al-Idrisi).
Thus, it is no surprise that he has been entrusted by the World Masyikhah of the Tariqah Ahmadiyah Idrisiah as the Shaykh of the Tariqah in Asia, due to his deep love and devotion to the legacy of Sayyid Ahmad ibn Idris.
We, the ordinary folk, must be grateful that we walk the path once trodden by the scholars and saints of Allah.
Shaykh Muhammad Fuad bin Kamaluddin Al Muhammadi is truly a shining Ahmadi gem, radiating divine effusions (fuyūdāt) and guidance (irshādāt) for us, the seekers (murīdīn) on this noble path of tariqah. It is now up to us to either remain steadfast on this journey or be among those cut off—or worse, cast away—from this immense blessing.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ السَّلْبِ بَعْدَ العَطَاءِ
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from having this gift withdrawn after it has been given.
