Is There Any Evidence The Bible Is True?

When skeptics claim that there’s no evidence that the Bible is true, they often haven’t bothered to look for any. For those who start investigating, there are real artifacts in places like the British Museum that corroborate Biblical history. Joy Hadden mentions three such examples in this Short Answers video.

Not Just Conversion: The Journey of Evangelism

The Big ‘Yes’. Conversion. Public declaration of faith. That’s what evangelism is all about isn’t it? That might be the destination, but the journey of faith is full of little ‘yeses’ and healthy ‘maybes’ as well. And sometimes, only God knows how important each step is for each individual. How can this perspective encourage us as we seek to share the gospel with those in our lives?

Motivation For Mission #20: Eternal Life

One of the great promises of the gospel is of ‘eternal’ or ‘everlasting’ life. We see it across the Bible and in Jesus’ teaching, in particular in places like John 3:16, which famously says:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (Jn 3:16)

Scholars tell us that there’s two aspects to that. One is that it’s an eternal quality of life and also that it will go on forever and ever – in other words an eternal quality and quantity of life.

Jesus’ promise to bring us an eternal quality of life comes from being connected to God because to know him is life – a life which never fades, dies or diminshes. What Jesus described as “life in all its fullness” (Jn 10:10) comes from knowing him.

And of course that life goes on forever and ever and cannot be snuffed out. “He who believes in me will live even though he dies”, Jesus said (Jn 11:25). Eternal life means both an eternal quality of life and an eternal everlasting quantity of life.

And so wherever the faithful church has gone across every continent and through two millennia, this is the promise she has held out to people: Come to Christ and know life in all its fullness, life of a depth and a quality that you didn’t know was possible, made possible by being connected to your creator; and a life which will go on forever and ever because it cannot be snuffed out – any more than the life of Jesus could be ultimately snuffed out! Though he died on the cross, he burst out of the grave and we are ‘in him’. Eternal life, for all who are in him, is the great gospel promise.

That’s the promise for us to rejoice in and root ourselves in today, but also the promise of life that we offer a dying world.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for the gift of life. Please help me both to rest in the promise myself, to live an eternal quality of life in all its fulness and to offer that life to the people around me today. Amen.

That’s the promise for us to rejoice in and root ourselves in today, but also the promise of life that we offer a dying world.

Motivation for Mission #19: Passing on the Baton

The Lord Jesus Christ came and he appointed his apostles (the twelve plus Paul for the Gentiles), and they planted churches across the ancient Near East. And in those churches they appointed elders, and in Paul’s letter to Timothy it says that those elders were to be entrusted with teaching others who would teach others. In what John Stott went on to call the ‘genuine apostolic succession’, Paul said:

the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. (2 Ti 2:2)

And so the gospel has been passed down generation after generation through all the rolling centuries, like a baton being passed from one runner to another. Through all the ups and down and turmoils and complexities of church history, the golden thread running through it is that of the gospel, passed hand to hand from Christ himself, through the apostles, and down through the generations. And now it lands here with us.

The baton of the gospel has been passed on to you and I by somebody. It’s in our hands! We have the Spirit of God in our hearts, we have the word of God in our hands, we have the gospel. The baton now sits with us and the question is who will we pass it on to? Will we pass the baton on to the next generation or will it stop here with us? We’re primed with the word, we’re energised by the Spirit.

Where will we pass the baton of the gospel on to next?

Prayer: Thank you Lord for the people who told me about you, and the people before that who told them. Thank you for people who have faithfully translated and preserved the Bible too. Please enable me not to just run a good race myself, but to faithfully pass the gospel baton to those who come after me. Amen.

Your Community, Your Questions

Many people are afraid to share their faith because they’re worried about the questions they might encounter. But one church chose to turn the tables on that idea. They asked the people of Maidenhead what questions they had for God. After receiving 468 responses, they invited respected Christian thinkers to give their answers to the most popular topics on the Maidenhead’s Questions Podcast. Here to tell us about the project are Adam and Ian from St Mary’s Church Maidenhead.

"Atheism is just a lack of belief in God.” 👀 But is it really that simple? Andy got some pushback after his last video on atheism — so he’s responding.

Because whether you’re Christian, atheist or somewhere in between, we all hold beliefs about reality, truth, morality, what it means to be human and what life is ultimately for.

And those beliefs deserve reasons. So perhaps instead of hiding behind easy soundbites, we should ask the harder question: Why do I believe what I believe?...Christians included. 😉

Agree or disagree? Let’s have a good conversation 👇
